Ealing residents second march opposing LTN's

There is a second march taking place tomorrow afternoon leaving Blondin Park at 3.00 which will go along the congested Northfield Avenue to finish at Bellend's folly aka Perceval House. If the little squirt thought that local opposition to the hurriedly introduced schemes was going away, he needs to think again I'd suggest. All welcomed I'm sure

I walked the length of Wellesley Road on Sunday – en route to cricket on Kew Green..I can't believe all who live there aren't absolutely delighted...Nice place to live nowadays...One man's (motorist) TLN is a nightmare, another man's (resident) paradise....

I think the vast amount around that part of chiswick are very pleased. But it's worth noting its not part of the covid LTN scheme, but was instigated after 3 consultations over a few years. So this bit has actually been well thought out and discussed. It just coincidental that TFL got around to installing it at the same time as the temporary cycle lane and LTN stuff experiment started.

Absolutely correct. All LTNs do is shift the problem of traffic onto the poorer sections of society who live on main roads. But as long as the rich people who live in the leafy backstreets are ok, that's what matters I suppose.

In the case of the Wellesley/Stilehall area it's motivation is primarily to encourages and makes it easier (safer) for people to switch from cars to bikes (i.e. reduce traffic overall in the borough). Wellesley Road isn't an LTN, it is a part of the CS9 route, which is why the road has changed. It's a very well thought out and designed part of it imho (unlike the 'temporary' bit along CHR), and yes it has improved things for residents too.

Not all of the Wellesley Road scheme is well thought out. IN order to push through the cheap version in central Chiswick, TFL was forced to install a new bus gate on the High Road. The only function is to hold traffic back from the central section by actively creating queues. This serves to actively divert lots of traffic down onto Wellesley Road, many vans and lorries including. Police notice shows there has already been one serious accident as a result. Google maps now diverts anyone from the west or south west onto either Wellesley or up Heathfield Gardens from the A4. Both factors increase congestion and also risks to cyclists. Strange I see no comment on this?Can we not pretend its all fine and dandy. Its not.TFL also assumed that more traffic would route onto Oxford Road North, SCR and the A4 as a result of these closures. People live on all of these roads too.

But as long as the rich people who live in the leafy backstreets are ok, that's what matters I suppose."-------We should redirect traffic down minor residential roads to level up the misery that traffic congestion and cars cause?It won't make any difference to the people living on the A4 and other main roads - they'll still be just as busy and dirty.But you get to stick it to the rich people - and because minor residential roads are unsuitable for high volumes of traffic - you get to kill and maim some cyclists and kids too - but get them all with respiratory diseases in the end! One flaw in this argument is that it concedes that cars are noisy and polluting.  How about trying to reduce traffic overall - switch to walking, cycling and public transport for suitable journeys and incentivise (or tax!) people with noisy / dirty ICE vehicles to swap for electric.Nah - sod it - class war is so much more satisfying even if it does absolutely sod all to fix the issue.
