Rain dancer urgently required

According to the BBC forecast we aren't going to have any rain before the 24th beyond which they don't report.I can't remember the last time we had a decent downpour not can my poor garden.It's not normal.Start chanting folks!

    There was a long drought in Central Africa. The witch doctor had tried all his rainmaking dances, chanting, cursing etc. but to no avail.    One of the elders observed that rain was never a problem in England, so why not send the witch doctor to London to find out why.    Off he went to England, learned the secret, and returned to the tribe.    He informed the leaders that these crazy white men had a big paddock of grass enclosed by a white picket fence.    In the middle were two lots of sticks driven into the ground. Two men, each with a club, stood next to these sticks and waited for a lot of other men to spread themselves all over the paddock. Then two more men, wearing black trousers, four sweaters and six hats, came out to keep a close watch on the men with the clubs. Then one man got a red rock and threw it at one of the fellers with a club. THEN DOWN CAME THE RAIN!

Unfunny.We need rain and lots of it not only for my garden but for thousands of others plus parks, fields, rivers, allotments and so the list goes on and on.Anyway there is a dark cloud overhead so fingers crossed.

Lack of rain for protracted periods is extremely harmful to our flora and fauna. Hosepipes do not provide a solution for those sectors.

Rear of house I have five large plastic refuse bin water butts and a spare wheely bin full of collected rain water that are topped up whenever it rains via a receiving bucket put under a downpipe that I've fixed so that a removable section of lower downpipe to drain for the purpose keeps me watered all year round from bucket filled butts. Yes – I’m out in the downpours getting sodden topping up my butts. In droughts when supply has been emptied I've syphoned bath water out window onto roof where it's channelled to one downpipe into one of the water butt that ordinarily collects roof rain. Kitchen sink water has also been tipped into conserving buckets of varied nature. Even with all that prolonged lack of rain invariably impels one to the outside hose tap. But, that’s quite rare. Covering over water collectors is a necessity as mosquitos and hoverflies make a beeline in order to people any available pockets of water with their wiggling skippity infesting little progeny. I don't like to kill them so any larvae still managing to infiltrate into a covered butt I collect before using water for the garden and deliver the larvae to a single stinky butt at the back of my urban hovel to be left freely and balmy all summer long until metamorphosed to their appointed silent night if imperceptible little hum around the ears bedroom biting or changed to iridescent tiger-striped delightful dartings about one's untidy nondescript flora.

Good for you Bobbie, that's quite a setup.I have two rainwater tanks holding about one hundred gallons which I plunge watering cans into. It's  much quicker than using a hose but they soon go down when there is little rain.You have inspired me to rig up another. Thank's.

There is a solution to this problem....A serious gardener with a smallish suburban show-garden full of plants needing watering – as southern England heats up and global warming alters our climate..A simple irrigation system through the flowerbeds.  Not very expensive - especially if you fit it yourselves - like we, or to be slightly more accurate,  she did this winter...It works - and it's far more effective than hours spent with a hose pipe.  Uses less water too...

Luv a duck! You do a rain dance and get snow!Stuart, my neighbour has that system and he is very happy with it.I did try a limited version just to water plants in tubs when we are away but it meant moving them all close to one another or having tubes running across everywhere which I couldn't be bothered with.Anyway, I like  watering  plus it's a good opportunity to health check each plant.

snow don't add much moisture to the soil, although there is a snow dance, try that and it might rain.
