The BBC used to televise 'The Messiah', or appropriate sections of it, at Christmas or Easter, but over the past few years, classical music has ben badly served on TV. We used to get an opera or ballet on the big feast days, even one year a clash of operas on BBC and Channel 4 - the latter shows how long ago it was, before recording programmes became easy. Apart from the Proms season, BBC4 relays few classical music events, preferring to remind us of long-gone pop groups in decades-old 'TOTP'. I realise that current restrictions have made large-scale events impossible, and that other platforms are available, but why not scour the back catalogue? Why not arrange some recitals? A generation of very talented artists are being deprived of the chance to develop their skills, but the arts don't touch the mass public that the BBC and other platforms seek.
