Just witnessed a man cycling over Hogarth flyover. Unbelievable!!

I have slowly followed a cyclist over there - well he speeded up considerably on the down side.

It has only been fairly recently that cyclists I thought were banned from going over there? My husband used to cycle over it every day when he commuted into the city - said it felt safer than using the roads below.

Google streetmap from 2008 shows that Cars and Motorcycles are the only permitted traffic in the right hand lane that leads to the flyover (it's a blue'permission' sign rather than any red 'prohibition' sign that indicates this). So cycles haven't been allowed on the flyover for more than 10 years, probably far, far longer.

Cycling into town along the elevated A40 Westway would also be a handy option, and possibly safer than all the traffic conflict on the alternative ground level route, particularly now it's no longer a motorway and there's a 30mph limit up there. It would only need a couple of lines of bollards.

Probably NOT no ! I used to motorcycle to and from work in the West End during the 1980's at very high speeds and seeing pedal cyclists would worry me somewhat. So has the Westway speed limit been reduced to a civilised 30 mph now?

Now you're talking. Take out a lane of the A4 and Cromwell Road all the way in and all the way out. Make it a wide safe cycle lane instead. Something needs to happen to give commuters a safe route from Kensington and Chelsea. Could always close Chelsea Embankment to cars as well or instead like they've done in Paris.

Speed limit on the Westway west of the roundabout with the A3220 (where you'd turnoff for Westfield) has been 30mph for some time now to protect the bridge joints. The 30mph signage has recently been extended eastwards by a couple of hundred yards so the 30mph stretch now runs for the entirety of the westway between last two average speed cameras (previously there was a short 40mph stretch and a long 30 mph stretch).Whether the 30mph speed limit legally applies all the way depends on whether the TRO has been put in correctly.

Oh grow up the lot of you, it's like kids in the playground.As a driver I've been physically threatened by another car driver, as I'm sure many of us have.  As a cyclist whilst riding completely legally I've been physically threatened by a car driver.  In my younger days I once cycled (at 8am on a Saturday morning) on the North Circular all the way from Chiswick Roundabout to Finchley, including going up and over flyover before Brent Cross.  Legal ? - yes.  Did I ever feel I was in danger or putting anyone else in danger at the time ? - no.  Would I do it now ? - no.  Do I think I was stupid to do it then ? - yes.Now go back indoors before teacher comes out to get you.

Or was it a vailed threat to me and my family?I didn’t give the lead up to that incident on purpose to see how the two wheel brigade posted about it.I don’t know you personally,  we sound about the same age, or I might be older As you picked up on the sixties vocabulary, it sounds as though you still hold the grudges from way back, I lost all that rubbish after Brighton as a load of Chiswick lads witness some staged rubbish that put us off the whole manufactured scene.If I was an aggressive person I would have continued to follow the trend of the violent  Gangs of young people that frequented the the London area.

I must say Bernard that cycling has taken my life over, for the better may I say. Since records began 25 years ago the mileage has been accumulating. Now 5980 miles from Moon landing which should occur towards the end of 2021. Should you see an old bloke riding through Chiswick stop me for a chat. Average distance to the Moon is 238855 miles.
