Sadiq Khan set for a landslide and may be re-elected mayor in first round of voting, says Evening St

Seems as if the 'Sub' Standard thinks it's a done deal for mayor of London, heavens help us all if they are true. “You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.” Khan is obviously able to despite his appalling record of having done virtually nothing since he was elected bar the War on the Motorist. Heaven help us next year as well if the current two sets of clowns get re-elected in Hounslow and Ealing.

'heavens help us all if they are true.'If not a sure bet surely then a reasonable bet on Khan winning.  if reports are to be believed Shaun Bailey has had his funding cut to a minimum,  this should tell you everything.

It is a credit to Londoners that they have recognised what is going on and seen through all the attempts by government to undermine Sadiq Khan. From the under funding of Hammersmith Bridge, Crossrail and public transport infrastructure in general to the attempts to make him implement unpopular policies by withholding funding for TfL, the Johnson's administration's policy towards London has been entirely driven by the desire to get their candidate elected as London Mayor. Like nearly everything else they have tried it has been a dismal failure.There is even an increasing awareness that Sadiq Khan's 'war on motorists' is actually a Boris Johnson policy dictated to London by his transport advisor Andrew Gilligan.

Yes. That’s right and all those of us who signed up to Sadiq’s “Talk London”in which he has been asking us to let him know our views and concerns for the last 4 years will be well aware of it.The Gov has been refusing to supply funding but will if we vote for Shaun Bailey.

Whether you love Khan or loathe him, or are indifferent to him, he will walk May's election, short of running amok with a machete beforehand. The Conservatives can't be bothered to field a credible candidate against him, any more than they could in 2016.

Latest poll has 53% Khan 28% Bailey.In 2016 Londoners were keener on Zac - he polled 35%.Boris won with 44% by comparison.

I did notice in the 'Sub' online yesterday that some clowns were suggesting that Tory's weren't voting for Shaun Bailey because he is black! I wonder if they have seen a picture of Mr Khan if that is indeed true which I doubt.

It is not good when the government of whatever persuasion puts obstacles in the way of the Mayor of London such as putting conditions  on TfL funding that it would not impose on a Mayor from its own party. In the end everyone has a poorer outcome.

How about a vote to see if London still wants a mayor ? After Livingstone, Johnson & Khan there might be a few people who think we would be better off without. Funny how we never get a confirmatory referendum after a "yes" vote once we have had the chance to see how things work out, whereas the likes of the SNP want to keep holding them ad infinitum after they got a "no" vote.

We do need a mayor.  There needs to be someone central to give direction and override nimby local councils.A mayor is the best option for that when the alternative is Whitehall.  We just need the major parties to put up a competent candidate.It's a pity Rory Stewart bowed out.  He would have been less bad than either of the other two, and might have stood a chance of getting elected.

I see Mr Khan's latest wheeze is to promise 4G on the tube if he is voted back in on 6th May. Wee Jimmy Krankie has promised free laptops for all Scottish schoolkids if her SNP get back in too. Is there no level either of them won't sink to?

Councils and businesses have also provided equipment.Voluntary groups all over the country have been collecting unwanted laptops and tablets etc and setting them up for reuse.  A really local collection has been organised by Cllr Ron Mushiso with the help of Richmond Rugby Club.There is a very big digital divide.  There are many older people who have become even more isolated with their lack of digital expertise during this pandemic.  Once those people who would normally visit and help can't the isolation increases.

Peter, it’s up and running on the Jubilee line and cable is already laid much further than that.  I’m not sure it’s such a stretch.

I’m not sure Richard was being entirely serious. He was violently opposed to a confirmatory vote after the Brexit referendum which, realistically, was more likely to reverse the original outcome.
