I agree it very important to do your research especially when it is your health or the health of your family. The scheme in our area is modified obviously as it is an appointment with your GP surgery and not their doctors which if offered can be refused. We do not have to pay for it at all in this scheme there should be no medication mistakes or diagnosis problems as your GP will be doing it. I agree it could over load a GP service with ore work but it could in comparison make their appointment system better and have less patients to see in surgery for regular checks which would offset the workload. It is not a US takeover of the NHS and this website would say very clearly if it was

Caroline,I think you've misunderstood.I used the service the other day.The appt is not with a doctor from your surgery.My experience wasn't very good (see the other thread on the same topic).
