sainsbury recycling

I went to take some bottles to Sains recycling last week. The bins had gone and there was rubbish strewn everywhere. Does anyone know if theyve gone for good?

Noticed on Saturday that the cardboard recycling bins have gone from JS Manor Circus.  The car wash cabin vanished a few weeks ago so seems they've gone too.

Sainsbury's probably reckoned they would be overwhelmed once Stirling Road closed so shut them down.

https://www.hounslow.gov.uk//recyclinghttps://www.ealing.gov.uk/recyclingYou can check out what you can recycle kerbside with your Local Council here and make sure that you have the correct receptacles - if not - order online.The original mantra was Reduce Reuse Recycle.  Now there is Repair and Repurpose and probably several others included before the end of life as it is Recycle.  It is a shame that not as much reduction has gone into waste as could have been.The Food Waste Bin makes a lot of difference.  You can learn how to make less food waste by following tips for portions, storage and leftover recipes on www.lovefoodhatewaste.com.  All the supermarkets seem to have their own websites with helpful tips on leftovers and recipes as well.

Sainsbury's 'Store Details' website still lists 'Recycling' as being available at Chiswick.  Someone will have to ask the friendly manager what's going on.

I had been informed by Sainsbury's that pick ups since lockdown have been infrequent and  very costly. I was told a week a ago that a collection was on route from our contractor but when i checked on Saturday nothing seems to have been done . Sainsbury's have reached out to council for help in enforcing the area with better signage and support. I am chasing this up but given it is private land, the council is is not obligated. But I have asked politely. I hope they will come up wit something especially given the reduced local authority recycling opening hours/closure - means pressure are on site such as these at Sainsbury's. From my knowledge this is in Chiswick. Ealing/Acton is the other side of the railway.

Thanks. Actually I dont blame them. Since South Acton site became booking only, Sains has been overflowing. What's it going to be like when they close South Acton? I can see loads more fly tipping. Who's going to want to drive to Greenford with a bag of rubble?

https://help.sainsburys.co.uk/help/terms-and-conditions/PHC-recyclingSince LBH collect small electrics and electronics kerbside you may not need this take-back facility that Sainsbury's list here.  Worth asking though if it is useful to you.Is the light bulb collection box still in the car park?Is the carrier bag and other plastic bag collection still inside the store?The container for used household batteries?I don't think Stirling Road takes rubble any more as they stopped taking a lot of stuff when DIY became chargeable.

Chiswick is in both LB Hounslow and LB Ealing. The Sainsbury’s site is in LB Hounslow.

A note on the Sainsbury’s recycling bins just before they were removed, said they were changing them and they would be unavailable for a short while. I took a picture but can’t get the hang of posting them on here

LBE has small electronics/electrical banks in various places.Many larger supermarkets take back small electronics and electricals.  You need to look at their websites or ask them (hoping you find someone who actually knows).I believe that these bins are a Sainsbury's responsibility not a Council one.  I once asked why people were using them and was told several times that is was because they didn't understand their Council's collections.  Why???  I remember seeing signs saying that just leaving stuff on the ground was fly tipping.  Don't they still have this information?

I normally used Sainsbury's recycling bins for getting rid of parts of the Sunday newspaper after I'd filleted out the bits I didn't read, and occasionally getting rid of old clothing and 'small electrical items'. It's a bit inconvenient now they're not there any more.

LBH collect all paper and also any textiles, if wrapped in a plastic bag.

And the same with small electrics, electronics ( no bigger than a microwave).Textiles include shoes tied together in pairsPut them in separate plastic bags on top of the cans/ plastics in the red box with net over.Stack the boxes. Green for glass bottles and jars ( heavy) at the bottom..Blue for paper and card on top.Red for cans and plastics ( no bags or film ) on top with electrics/ electronics and textiles and net over. Locked food waste bin next to.Collected every week and no problem at all.Empty boxes returned stacked and replaced where they were found.Helpful if boxes are addressed with permanent marker.

Hi Philippa, I don't know about other people, but I use Sainsbury's recycling as there is no council recycling from my flat (Willow Court, Corney Reach Way).  We have a cardboard bin but nothing else — it is very shocking.

In response to an earlier post. If you pay council tax to Ealing Borough your not in Chiswick. Common mistake made between the postal boundaries and the town boundaries.I was brought up in the Acton part of W4.

Try telling that to an Estate Agent!Both LB Ealing and LB Hounslow are members of the West London Waste Authority together with Hillingdon, Harrow, Brent and Richmond.  This has allowed them to come to some reciprocal arrangements.  Some including me thought it was obvious that they should do this with waste destined for the 'tips' as they USED TO be called so that those people closest to Stirling Road which is an Ealing Reuse & Recycling facility could use that. You don't have to live in any particular borough to shop at Sainsbury's in Chiswick. Flats' recycling is a perennial problem as is anywhere where the freeholders or landlords have not allocated or have removed space allocated for bins. I thought that Councils had managed to improve this with new buildings and new conversions by being more involved at planning permission stage now.

@ TracyThis is disappointing.  I thought that LBH had this sorted.  I do know that they have been having problems with some estates.  It is always more problematic where the sharing of bins is concerned because people seem to take less responsibility for what they are doing and where they put stuff. I'm surprised that a comparatively recently built block like Willow Court doesn't have a communal bin or two for recycling collections. A stern word needed with your building management.

Thanks Philippa.  One of the other residents has been trying for a long time to obtain recycling at the block (to no avail).  Perhaps we do all need to complain to obtain it.

Hi Peter, when I first moved in we had green bins.  They took most things but not plastic, so even then I saved it all up to take to Sainsbury's.  Then, mysteriously, the bins vanished.and no replacements offered.  Do you think it is the building management who need to act rather than the council?
