Louise Mirwitch asked:"Where have the parakeets gone?"They've presumably found a source of fresh food somewhere, buds etc. When that source is exhausted they'll most certainly be back as they've done in past years, in my garden at least. They can stand the winter cold as they can be found, among other places, in the foothills of the Himalayas. There are nest-holes in some of the trees along the southern cemetary boundary of Gunnersbury Park.Of equal interest to me are the swans on the lake in Gunnersbury Park. Around 23 arrived, from who knows where both adults and juveniles, around 2 months ago and remained until there until just before the last big freeze. (This is counting them roughly weekly when I remebered) Around a dozen remain. A pair of swans has now turned up on the pondin Boston Manor which may be from there or from thecanal. The latter seems to have been stripped of its colony of colourful mandarin ducks by the "tidying up"operation around the periphery of the pond, which has robbed them of all their former concealed roosting sites.michael adams...
