It’s quite clever, I didn’t think they’d be able to manage the transfer over of account data but they seem to have worked that out. So when is the big switch over?

Well done all.We used to post many images in the past (practicing on the little used Wandsworth site Forum and fiddling around with imgs etc.Richard Jennings was our tutor in those days! Any gifs possible?

"We used to post many images in the past (practicing on the little used Wandsworth site Forum and fiddling around with imgs etc."Yes indeed, Jim.  That must have been 15-20 years ago!  Unfortunately the very old forum posts are no longer available. The 'new' version of the forum is notable for enabling a photo to be posted without having to get it on to a website first.  What I hadn't realised is that Neighbournet do this by converting the photo into a huge block of text which is then included in the post that you submit. For the technically-minded, it's a base64 conversion that is presented to the browser using a "data URI" that provides the actual photo data instead of a link to a file.  I extracted the base64 text of Adrian's Chiswick Mall photo from the source of his mail and put it into a Word document. It filled 50 pages of solid text!Russell asked when the big switch-over to the new forum would happen.  I've no idea, but it's not all good news.  The search facility only covers the last 12 months, and it's only a month or two since I heard that some aspects don't work on Macs.  Of the other Neighbournet sites, Shepherds Bush, Wandsworth and Wimbledon have moved to the new design.  It still looks like a work in progress to me.

I'm not sure there will be a big switch over. The "new" site has been around for ages though I couldn't actually say how long that is. I normally stick with the "classic" version unless I want to add media. If the new site is still bedding in, it's time to change the sheets, or may be even the mattress!

You can edit the html by clicking on the bottom right. I'll try embedding an iframe... Bit of highlighted text here - you can style P. Put your mouse over me! If you see a message it worked :-)
