TGT Covid space

Interesting and good to to see today that shopkeepers are asking customers to queue in the roadspace protected by wands on Turnham Green Terrace instead of on the pavement alongside the other shops.It has taken a while to adapt but that is a good use of the space and it shows that the shopkeepers value this extra space for distancing to accommodate their queueing customers in a safe way while ensuring open access for customers to neighbouring premises.Not surprisingly there are very few displaying the OneChiswick poster now that they are using the extra space provided by the Council.

That's a friendly response!It is Covent Garden Fishmongers doing it. Today is the first time I have seen it too. They put an A frame out today with friendly instructions to customers to queue in the road space instead of along the pavement outside the neighbouring shops. They brought umbrellas out for their customers.They were displaying the poster and have been open and they have taken it down now. Macken has taken down both the posters inside their shop too.This would be an odd thing to fabricate.

The cluster of food shops in close proximity on the west side creates the need for the space. It's why I wrote a letter to the Council suggesting in in April 2020. The problem is much less pronounced on the east side as it is only Macken that has a queue and the shops that people are standing outside are closed.

So the total disruption of TGT is good for some queuing during Covid..Excellent, I look forward to TGT retuning to a thriving accessible shopping street, once Covid restrictions are removed.

TGT is the biggest eyesore, ridiculous solution to a problem that never existed. Absolutely yes we need the stupid bollards and planters removing and restore the street for the local community shoppers.

Strangely, Jayne, whilst the pandemic remains a threat, there are those of us who simply won't shop where there is no room to avoid other pedestrians.

I had to weave past a queue outside Bayley and Sage today. Not a complaint just an observation.Have shops taken down One Chiswick posters because they were worried about boycotts or because they now think road closures are a good idea?It is hard to take the council's efforts to aid social distancing seriously when they continue to tolerate the massive JC Decaux sign in the middle of the pavement near the Old Pack Horse.

Hi fish lovers some interesting news for you,Due to underhanded complaints made by the proprietor of the chocolate shop to Hounslow council regarding you our lovely loyal customers, its been brought to my attention from the council that you are blocking the entrance and the window of his shop and not adhering to social distancing!?  I have also been made aware that he has been incredibly rude, aggressive and disrespectful to both my female staff and you my customers.I would therefore like to express my deepest apology on his behalf for his rudeness and disrespect and to avoid any further unpleasantness from him and potential fines from the council, I would kindly ask you to queue in the road, that’s separated with barriers from the traffic and then to cut back across the pavement when you get level with our shop. As the proprietor of the chocolate shop doesn’t even want you to stand under his awning when its raining, I have arranged to provide you all with umbrellas to keep you nice and dry. The umbrellas will be sanitised before and after use, hand sanitizing gel is available for use and if the umbrellas are not being handed out please come to the door and help yourself to one.  Thank you.

Surprise, Surprise!! It’s not that the traders have embraced the council’s bonkers street layout, it’s more that they have been forced to react to a complaint by a fellow local trader. The fellow trader is annoyed that people buying from the Covent Garden Fishmonger are queuing, in a disorderly line, along the pavement outside the surrounding shops and not obeying social distancing rules. Well I’ve been buying from the fishmonger most weeks since the first lock-down and I have only ever seen customers keeping a good distance apart.  The Covent Garden Fishmonger has enforced strict protocols and only allows one customer in at a time. But it seems that this is not good enough and it appears that this “Stasi” complainant has requested that the fishmonger’s customers queue in the road and only go on the pavement when they reach the entrance to the fishmonger. How bizarre. It’s almost as if he wants to force us all into conforming to the the council’s daft street layout ideology! Big Brother might indeed be watching you.

The world has gone crazy and so has Hounslow council, TGT Bollards and planters are a complete disgrace, unattractive, serve no purpose. So a trader complains probably because they are quiet and just jealous fishmongers doing great trade. Never had a problem passing the queue but then we social distance walking past anyone with our masks on. It would be great if the council want to spend our money firstly they consult secondly they consider an attractive scheme to the benefit of the community.

The only reason I took down the sight was because it would be hypocritical of me to continue to display it when I now have to use the space the council has provided.I feel the council can still provide parking spaces instead of all the loading bays and I certainly don't want the road closed to through traffic for any reason.The only reason the complaint was made about the queue not social distancing is because it would be taken more seriously than a complaint about people queuing outside someone's shop.Garry Covent garden Fishmongers.

The idiot chocolate shop who has complained should not be open imo anyway. How the hell is chocolate essential? If Hounslow had some balls that would have been their response to the complaint ..... oh by that doesn’t suit the narrative of ruining TGT and CHR.

So my suspicions are correct the chocolate shop is very quiet, just jealous and wanting to cause trouble a real shame. I agree the chocolate shop is non essential and should be closed. Covid loves people who eat chocolate so on health ground right now it should be closed.....

"Covid loves people who eat chocolate so on health ground right now it should be closed....."Jayne, two things.Is there a study you can point us all to to support this?Presumably all traders selling anything with the tiniest bit of chocolate have pulled them from the shelves and/or been issued a PCN for selling them.When last we checked we can still buy a Cadbury's from Sainsburys. For that matter, you better alert Ruth Cadbury as to her liability.Otherwise maybe dial back on the daft.

What a strange thread, with Paul C and Ken coming out of hibernation. Why the excitement about a few people queueing in the blocked off parking? And what has this got to do with cycling or indeed closing TGT to through traffic?It seems all due to a complaint from one shop owner. And yet another TGT trader has posted to make it clear that they don't want TGT pedestrianised or any other crazy schemes. Funny also as not long ago Paul C was engaged in a childish boycott, and Ken was refusing to visit TGT because of the 'stink'. Yet some people queuing make them happy? What strange times....
