Ben Most residents of my age remember the good and the bad of DM most of the problems were on the now named Dan Mason Drive. The promenade was locked at night by gates in a Riverside Drive and at the other end by the civil service boat club. The main gates in promenade approach Road and the gates by the farm house were also locked so any vehicle activity would have been by the footpath from Barnes bridge to the railway bridge and under and up to the old Riverside lands football field’s and allotments.A lot of dodgy characters used to hang around in motors on the old gravel pits loading bay, which is opposite the golf club entrance.10 of us used to call for friends who lived in the sports club, and being the average teenager of the early sixties on scooters, caused havoc amongst the parked vehicles.
