Replacement windows

Can anyone help please? I'm looking for recommendations for companies to replace my double glazed windows, who preferably don't charge the earth. The top ones on Which are based in Scotland and Yorkshire and the review for Everest, who tell us that they're the best, is at the bottom of the table and far from positive. Any thoughts or recommendations gratefully received.

The Devonshire Glass Centre, 19 Devonshire Road, has always been brilliant for us.  I don’t know whether the scope of your project might be bigger than they normally do, but worth enquiring. As for Everest, personally, apart from one vile salesperson, I had satisfactory results some time back.

I could be wrong but wonder with severest, like Hillary’s, it would depend as much in the individual installer.

A second vote for Devonshire Glass - Naj is very helpful and has carried out a lot of work for my Property Management Company JMW Property Management have a chat with him.

There's a terrific range called Residence 9 if you want casement windows, or Quickslide if you want sliding sash windows.  Both companies have replicated traditional timber windows and can offer a woodgrain finish.

Recommend Ultralux windows in Whitton. https://www.ultraluxwindows.co.uk/Be aware it’s often cheaper to get quotes then find our the manufacturer of the windows they are using and go direct. You just need someone to fit then which is straightforward.  And someone to do correct spec for measuring vents number of openers etc.

Sean, you should be careful with that. It could be an idea but remember it's the fitter not the manufacturer that has to be Fensa registered.

Stephen I was going to make the same comment.

Richard have a look at www.actongreensash.co.uk (workshop now in Staines) Dominic has been doing windows for 25 years and specialises in traditional sliding box sashes (with lead weights, not springs)

It’s all a con. You can do all the Fensa stuff yourself through building regs who are extremely helpful.  As long as it complies fire regs, ventilation etc. It takes a bit of research but the savings are enormous.

Anyone can fit windows, you don't need to be Fensa registered, although that is what alot of people are led to believe. Being Fensa registerd simply means you can self certify your own work, if you aren't registered you have to get the building officer to inspect and certify the work.  Building officers very helpful with what is required. I guess some people very happy to pay window companies vast sums for very little work.  Our windows heritage windows in a conservation area. Needless to say window companies happy to charge massive premium for this. We went direct to suppliers got building regs to approve what we were ordering and a competent fitter (and that’s not difficult). Savings are massive.  The industry is a huge con.

We had good service from Natural Windows last year. They are on Park Parade on Gunnersbury Avenue. naturalwindows.com

We used Richmond Windows a bit back to replace a whole window, and LBM Glass and Glazing in Sutton to replace 'blown' double glazed window panes.

Used in my home and 100% recommend

I’ve used Crystal home improvements who did a very good job a few years back, replacing windows. Also used Academy windows from Reading for patio doors. They had to do a lot of structural work. They used an independent structural engineer who reported back to me and them, two days for the structural work and fitting the doors with no hassle.
