Christmas Trees Blocking the Pavements

As ever the proportion of people who are unaware of the change of bin days for Chiswick residents in Ealing borough seems very high. This is probably due in no small part to the fact that if you check on the council's site it tells you it is today — it's not, it's tomorrow according to details kindly published on this forum earlier. As well as the recylcing wheelie bins with a tremendous amount of extra Christmas packaging there are some huge trees left out on the pavement which aren't exactly a positive with regard to social distancing. It would be an easy win for the council and the quality of life in the place where we live if they made just a bit of an effort to make sure that people are aware of revised collection dates.

Sorry, but like a lot of people (judging by the pavements) the councils information has been confusing at best. We are in the Bedford Park area, and were led to believe our tree would be collected last Wednesday, which did not happen. Updated information seems to now indicate that it will be collected today, but as of 1pm, it is still in our driveway. We brought it back onto our property so as not to block the pavement, but are obviously concerned it might be left, so have now got it half on our driveway and half on the pavement, hopefully not causing any obstruction. I do feel that there should have been a collection last week, after the traditional 12 days were up...

I have to agree that information this year has been a bit confusing, at least as far as Hounslow is concerned. We got a special guide attached to our wheelie-bin at the last normal collection before Christmas. No matter how many times I read it I couldn't work out what the tree-collection schedule was - maybe  I'm just thick!At least the chart on the website makes sense, even if things do seem to be unusually late this year. Despite everything it's great that trees are taken away and properly recycled -I'm sure it's something all councils could do without at the moment, so maybe we should be grateful.

I don't think LBE's online info is as clear as it should be.  This is probably as a result of them updating old info.  There is also a link that doesn't work and they are not as clear as LBH on exactly where the park collection points are - hence some alternative park collection points have materialised.  Better there than on the pavement though and yesterday afternoon we came across four trees on the pavement - which is NOT where they should be. I hope they will hold a proper post mortem on their Christmas Recycling & Waste arrangements and residents will let them know so that they can improve for next Christmas.  If you can take yourself it is very satisfying and you will avoid the stress of wondering if they have or haven't taken it.  I suspect that they had an awful lot of extra rubbish on their first collection after the holiday.It was really good yesterday afternoon to see a family with small children all helping to carry a tree across a zebra crossing to the park and another family who had pulled theirs on a trailer.  A great lesson in responsibility for the future.

Ealing Council's "Ealing News Extra" web site says "Trees will be collected on the same day as your refuse collection (black bin) each alternate week." Since the black bin collection was last week, that's when people put their trees out. So it isn't the fault of people getting the collection day wrong, it's that the trees weren't collected on the right day.

LBE Should have updated its online bin collection page.They left the normal one up working with no link to christams updateYou had to do a google search to find the christmas infoIt takes no time to update the usual bin collection webpage whatsoever so that you see what you need to see or have that heading XMAS with a link to it below. Its a case of being absolutely useless

Yes, but they weren't collected on black bin day. As far as I could see the garden rubbish bags weren't collected either so possibly the whole "green" collection was skipped last week.

You don't need to be paying for a garden waste collection to have your tree collected though.  I can't download the PDFs for garden waste to see whether you are paying for an all year round service or not - so I can't check your logical comment.

Under normal circumstances the garden waste is collected on the same day as the black bin waste. Last week the Christmas trees should also have been collected on the same day as the black bins. There have been some unemptied garden waste bags out on the pavement since last week, so my point was that it's possible that the trees were due to be collected with the garden waste and the whole collection run didn't happen.I don't know whether that's true, it's just a guess based on the fact that people put out garden waste and Christmas trees last week and neither were collected.

Our tree went from our front gate as per schedule with the black (Ealing) wheelie last week. Otherwise we'd have enjoyed that great local Yuletide tradition of dragging our tree through the streets to the nearest park.

Lucky you, despite Ealing clearly stating on their website that trees would taken with all rubbish/recycling collections from 3rd January they are still yet to actually take our trees!

That's because they aren't sure whether to take them with the recycling collections or with the black bin collections or with both.  It makes the trip to the collection points in the parks (official and not official) even more tempting.

They got the Christmas/New Year holiday wrong too.  It should be 2020/21 - so that when you look for the info next year on the Search facility because it is not obvious on the front page of the Council's website you can tell if it is up to date or not.

Still no one has removed our Christmas tree from the Bedford Park area - does anyone know when this is going to happen? First last Wednesday, then yesterday, then today, but nothing so far...
