Dog owners: Beware of Alabama Rot

Young Veterinary Partnership8 January at 11:01  · ❗️ CALLING ALL DOG OWNERS ❗️Yesterday we received a very sad ☎️ call from another vet surgery in the local area unfortunately reporting a case of Alabama Rot within their surgery.Alabama Rot is rare but potentially fatal if contracted. As a dog owner please make yourself aware of the signs ➡ http://bit.ly/3hVQefK ⬅ 💦 Wash & towel dry your dogs feet & legs after every walk.  🔴 Look out for new sores or ulcers on your dogs skin. This dog was being walked in Sheen Park & Chiswick park. If you find new hot spots or sore patches particularly around your dogs feet / leg area please seek veterinary advice immediately. Many thanks Young Vets 🐾🐾https://www.rspca.org.uk/adviceandwelfare/diseases/alabamarot

How come this post is timed at 3.38am yet in the text quotes a time of 11:01pm?I will not be going to open the link if and until this has been verified as genuine.

Thanks for the heads up. Confused by  your response Adrian.  The poster had obviously copied and pasted  a message they had received on 8th Jan.

"Yesterday we received a very sad ☎️ call from another vet surgery"I agree it's confusing but the author says they received a telephone call not a message.

I think the poster just copied entire message they received from Young’s.  Young’s received a call notifying them then chose to send out the message, as per poster, to all their customers.

Maybe maybe not however I am on Young's database and haven't got the message. As I said in my first post, I am not sure if it is genuine or not but until this is cleared up one way or the other I won't be using the link.

The link in the original post leads to this Kennel Club article about Alabama Rot:https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/health-and-dog-care/health/health-and-care/a-z-of-health-and-care-issues/alabama-rot/"This dog was being walked in Sheen Park & Chiswick park."  Sheen Park is a street off Sheen Road A305.  I'm not aware of an actual park with that name.  Chiswick Park is the business park off the High Road.  Or is it meant to refer to Chiswick House Gardens?

Richard Jennings ● 2117d

Richard, locals in Richmond call the area of Richmond Park nearest to Sheen, Sheen Park and many people refer to Chiswick House Grounds as Chiswick Park. But I expect  you knew  that! One of my dogs us registered with Youngsters in Chiswick but I haven't had this message. But I can't see why it wouldn't be a genuine warning. It's very worrying as several dogs have died from this, especially round the New Forest area.

Thanks, Alina; as you mention, I copied this from another site.Apologies for not having mentioned this initially.

The link leads to this:Alabama rot, otherwise known as Cutaneous and Renal Glomerular Vasculopathy (CRGV), is a disease affecting dogs by causing damage to the skin and kidney's blood vessels. This can cause small blood clots to form resulting in blockages that can lead to damage of the affected tissue. This damage causes visible ulceration in the skin, but when the kidney is affected it can lead to severe organ dysfunction and ultimately kidney failure.

Thank you, Leslie, for posting this, very helpful and may save some dogs.  Depressing though on top of the pandemic, but best we know and can take steps to help our furry friends.
