Help our junior docs get to work by replacing their stolen bikes

To the good people of Chiswick: I spotted a post on the website Nextdoor about two trainee doctors who cycle to work and had their bikes stolen from outside UCLH. One of their colleagues is crowd-funding to buy them replacements. Body of the post and the link to the funding site is below. I work at UCLH in the Anaesthetics dept and last night was unrelenting, I managed to get 2 cups of tea in 12h & my whole team worked super hard to stabilise all the Covid patients. My trainee then comes out to find his bike stolen... needless to say he was super upset. I’m now trying to reach out to as many ppl as possible to crowdfund him & another trainee who also had her bike stolen so they can get new ones to get them to work and continue treating these sick patients. Wonder how long before the new bicycles get stolen. They need ultra secure bike sheds or something !

It's awful that the bikes were stolen and I'm very glad the bikes can be replaced. However, it really isn't that expensive to insure a bike. Some insurers insist that a certain kind of lock is used, others - like mine - do not. They do of course want the bike locked and to a (metal?) object embedded into a wall or the ground and one which the bike can't be lifted over. I understand, of course, that the two medics need their bikes replacing as soon as possible.

There also needs to be secure parking for their bikes.  I believe that this is something that the cycling groups have been actively engaged in trying to get at hospital.  I doubt whether there are as many security staff now to oversee anything like this.  Certainly when I've visited hospitals in the recent past they have no longer had anyone in reception to help anyone find their way around.It can be hard work to keep ahead of methods of thieving.  I am still amused at hearing a security man's description from his vantage point of seeing a locked bike rise up, over and off a parking sign.  It could be one tired or distracted moment or just bad luck.  Keep a photo and the details eg the make and serial number of your bike handy so it is easy to report and tweet missing if necessary.  Get your bike marked or chipped and registered.  The cycling organisations should also be able to help with this as well as insurance.  www.bikeregister.com is the national database.
