Dog theft

Apparently dog theft is rife; this from 'Nextdoor':Dog theft threat. Please please look after your dogs just had a threat that someone wants to steal one of my dogs look after your dogs. Dont give out any information on age, temperament, neutered or not. Keep them close and change your walk times and where you walk mix it up. Walk with another person if necessary.Clearly dog theft is rife it’s the new crime due to lockdown . They will steal them to make money regardless of age. They steal no. Neutered dogs to breed and neutered dogs to sell on not just puppies. Let’s look after each other. It has been reported to the police.

That is terrifying Leslie, glad they didn’t succeed, people are absolutely disgusting to even think this is an acceptable way to behave, dogs are part of the family so it’s equivalent to kidnapping a child, the law needs tightening with heavy prison sentences.

Just this morning, I observed a tiny mongrel, coat shaved off completely, tethered by an extendable lead to a barrier outside a shop. The dog was shivering and terrified and could easily have been taken away. I observed it for 10 minutes. When the owner eventually appeared, he dragged the dog by the neck under the carrier (couldn't be bothered to walk round it) and then suspended the dog by the neck as he lifted it up.If buying a dog, check that the breeder is legal (every person breeding a dog is required by law to display their breeding licence number with any advertisement) and make sure that any pre-owned dog has had the microchip checked).

Yes, the law states that all puppies must be microchipped at 8 weeks of age and that puppies must be seen with their mother. The only way of ensuring that the puppies are with their mother is to have visited the breeder/s and seen the parents beforehand and then visited before the puppies are weaned. Puppy farmers routinely use unrelated bitches to display with puppies and set up fake premises to fool purchasers into thinking that dogs have been "home bred".There are more than 50 statues in English law that cover dogs and many are routinely broken with no redress. The law also states that anyone breeding dogs should be inspected and licensed.All too few people ask questions when buying dogs and happily go do dubious sources to get the latest fashionable crossbreed and because they insist on having a dog immediately.
