Alan Perkins (front page news item)

Well, good luck to Alan on his retirement.  We haven't had our milk delivered in Chiswick for a few years now, but always appreciated his excellent service.  We always looked forward to the Christmas card designed by his calligrapher wife, and to his entries in the photographic competition at the Bedford Park Festival.  The video is great.

Yes, Alan, please have a fantastic and well-earned retirement.  We have had our milk delivered by Alan since 1992!  Like you, Barbara, we have loved his Christmas cards and his contributions to the Bedford park Festival.  Farewell Alan, you will be much missed.

Alan was our milkman for 35 years and the way Milk & More have behaved this last year has been a shocker.  They are well aware of my personal dissatisfaction and the fact that I no longer use their services but I am concerned that their attitude is affecting a lot of their customers and in particular the elderly ones.Where Alan was so wonderful was his care of the community.  Anything out of the ordinary such as milk not taken in and he would enquire of neighbours.  He went out of his way to help us and be cheerful.  He obliged when someone asked to have their milk placed in a particular place eg behind the fence out of the morning sun.His band played at our annual street.  Over the years he fulfilled various roles such as assisting with the photographic exhibition during the Bedford Park Festival and latterly his band played on stage on Green Days.  He became a friend who was a pleasure to have in our midst.Alan will be a hard act to follow and his successor will never know us, become a friend because he will be anonymous and faceless because that is the way the delivery service is being run.I am sure he will find other fulfilling activities but it won’t be with us.  We will miss him and wish him and his family all the best.

Perhaps he could delight us all by writing his memoirs?

Probably best that he doesn’t.  He has certainly seen it all over the years and to protect himself, the lawyers would have to use their black pens and it would end up being very dull.

Does/did any other country have the same wonderful milk delivery system as the UK?

Perhaps Alan could write another song called “Milkman Blues” !
