Hiding in plain sight

I'm sure the answer is buried in one or more of the myriad of cycle lane threads, but rights and wrongs of the scheme aside — Does anyone know why it hasn't opened yet? It looks pretty much complete to me and no one seems to be working on it that i've seen.

It won't be safe until all the traffic lights have been updated.  Some of them will have a separate phase for cyclists. There is also some work to be done on the road surface at the TGT junction, where cyclists turning into TGT from the High Road will need to do so in two stages, one to move into the middle of the junction while CHR traffic has the green light, and then the second stage which is to move across the junction into TGT on the Annandale Road phase.  The place where cyclists need to wait between stages will need to be marked on the carriageway.

They are clearly delaying the opening to coincide with the school holidays, so that they can try and demonstrate that it will not cause a significant increase in congestion. Of course, this will just be temporary, and come the new year when schools are back, and hopefully more of us will be returning to work, the fun will really start...

This seems like quite a stretch to be honest - it's going to open at a time when cycle volumes will be lowest; shortest days, reduced commuting, and poor weather. Would expect all traffic to fall during this period.

It will also be opening (believe it when I see it) just before a load of people (kids and adults) get a bike for Christmas. Whoop-de-do!

BernardThat's excellent news 👍 but cyclists now stop cycling on the pavements ? I sincerely hope so 🤞
