i was right in  my thinking

  LBE Road and pavement maintenance came to repair the pavement on the Avenue. I said to myself i bet you they don't do the same repair needed 3 ft away and then another 9 ft away from the one marked for repair. They came to do the first reported repair after someone came a marked it prior. They come out then to do the repair while standing next to the very same issue behind them. They then came and marked  the one 12ft away and later came again to repair leaving the one in the middle as i take it not reported. Now weeks on the one in the middle has been marked for repair. Three issues registered separately and 3 times they have to come out to mark and then 3 times to fix You would think that when you come out to spray mark one repair you would at the very least notice the other one 5 paving slabs away at least. Madness

Having worked for many years in the construction industry including with businesses that provided maintenance and facilities management services to "blue-chips" this bureaucratic approach is not unusual. Part of it is however a response to the ever present risk of fraud. Imagine the conversation. Q "You have used twice the quantity of materials that you should have done and taken three times the scheduled time. Why?" A "Well when we got on site we found a second hole that needed filling so we used our initiative and did that aswell."Sounds good. But what if the extra material and labour went into a private "off the books" job? In my opinion the problem lies with the survey process when the work to be done is specified. If a resident complains of a pothole and there are on inspection one or two potholes close by then pre-survey should identify this. An executive decision then needs to be made on whether to fill all the potholes or just one.This is not as simple as it seems. The time available to do the work is generally finite i.e. only so many people employed and/or budget available. If you fill more potholes in on place than you were asked to other potholes that have been reported will either not be filled or the repair will be delayed.

Julian,  You need your own little can of white spray paint so that you can add in those additional areas that the Council perhaps overlook to mark for repair.  Public service surely?

You can presumably check on www.fixmystreet.com what has been reported on that system.  However it's amazing how many people do not take responsibility for even reporting problems with the pavements outside where they live when so often it has been caused by their own building work or deliveries to them!

If they find more holes then why cant they take photographs and log the extra work.  Surely someone can come up with a solution to filling more than one hole at a time.  Not someone from the Council obviously, but someone with some sense.

Philippa makes my head spin.She goes on about having things delivered in an effort to curb driving.She fails to see how that negatively impacts local business.And now she moans about delivery vehicles damaging pavements.Which is it, love?Join up all those thoughts, let the penny drop and then get back to us.

On 1st November I had a very nasty fall, I tripped on a paving slab that was at least in excess of 1" high, I notifeid the Council, someone from HHighways eventually appeared on about 14th Nov. Promised to have it repaired within 14 days. I then got an email on 19th Nov stating that it would be repaired within 30 days. Today 40+ days later nothing has happened.That slab is still sitting there waiting to catch another poor soul. Disgraceful lack of care and H&S by an awful Council. I am still suffering the effects of the fall but it will catch others and who knows what injury it will cause.
