1 hr waiting at post office CHR for nada

Pardon me, I just have to scream. It’s one of those days. After 1 hour queuing the post office announced that the system crashed down.Aaaaaaaaaaah !!!

I passed by the other day (thankfully not needing to enter) and the queue was snaking down towards the Town Hall. Horrific.

I use Mailbox, just past HSBC on CHR, for posting and returning packages. Polite, quick and super helpful

I’ll try again as they didn’t accept my answer- having had great answers on this forum- I went to the post office on Thames road- only 5 people waiting- parcel accepted in 10 minutes- thanks forum for letting me know about this great post office.

I have some stuff which has to be send second class and they do only first class. That’s what we experienced in the first lockdown. Thank you for reminding me, I will post there from now on our other letters, and yes, they are very helpful and super polite.

No longer having a Post Office in Brentford, later this p.m. I took the bus to the P.O. in South Ealing Road. After waiting for about 15 minutes, most of which was spent out on the pavement, I was told that they had no second class stamps and no £1.70 stamps for cards to Canada/Australia. I thought of making the required postage up with two first class stamps (76p each) but this only amounts to £1.52. So it was another bus ride up to Ealing Broadway and another wait, this time of about 20 minutes. Seems like an awful big hoo-ha to get six cards sent. Ho hum.

I sympathises with your frustration of not receiving a service you are entitled to expect but I have to ask "for the sake of £0.18 was this really worth the extra effort"?

Royal Mail now do a pick up service from home. Think it’s 75p plus postage fee.

That would depend on the number of cards to be sent but not only that, as I said, they didn't have second class stamps either which I needed for my UK cards. They had the £1.45 stamps for Europe only. I did say to a few people in the queue when I left the South Ealing Post Office that there were no second class stamps to be had if that is what they were waiting for.As it happens, in the end I quite enjoyed the trip to Ealing Broadway once I'd got over the second Post Office experience. The tree near the church looks lovely as did the church itself in the half light and I enjoyed a coffee in Gails while watching a bit of life outside. Silver linings and all that!

Two first class stamps at 76p each would have been 18p short of the required amount of £1.70, not 18p more. There wasn't the option of using second class stamps to make up the total as they didn't have any and in any case whichever combination you used it wouldn't make the total or would be way over.

Or you can pay and print at home then pop to your nearest post box - which is what I did this afternoon for my Europe and Australia cards. Assuming you have a computer and a printer of course which I accept not everyone does. Tomorrow I will try to buy some 2nd class stamps but I won't be going to a Post Office first - stamps are sold in loads of places now. Postmark in TGT will even frank mail  for you and send it on its way.

I get my stamps from Sainsbury’s . I’d love to do it on line I’ll have a look at that.

To be honest Maggie it's a bit of a chore as you have to print an address label for every item. However for a few overseas items it's OK though and it does save the Christmas Post Office nightmare. Normal 1st & 2nd class books of stamps are sold in lots of shops now - thank goodness. I don't know how much longer we'll have Post Offices at all.

I’m so sorry for the pain. Christmas/Holiday time should be enjoyable and not rushing around. Delivery service Hermes etc not helpful either: They dumped a parcel from my elderly parents in front of the door on pavement not ringing doorbell. One of us is always at home. We found the parcel late at night as hubby had to buy some milk Anyone could have taken it. Despicable....
