New Chiswick Pool

Good news amigos!I passed there this morning and work is underway. Three plumbing specialist vans outside, cleaning equipment piled high in the lobby and sounds of hammering from within!

Would that hammering be the last nail in the coffin of LTNs!

I can report from the West that steam has been seen rising above the Heston Village Leisure Centre... so at least its kettle is working.

Jim Lawes ● 2149d

That sounds like good news Jim unless of course it's just Councillor Lambert's old Jaguar overheating again.

Adrian Irving ● 2148d

Thats great to hear, all steam ahead. I hope they also have an app to book/pay a slot beforehand so you only have to scan your phone on entry rather than wait painfully at the reception whilst the receptionist is explaining all the classes over the phone

Guess what?Apparently they got the boiler working but it conked out after a short while.A spare part is needed before a fix.Same old same old.

Adrian Irving ● 2145d

Maybe they don't realise they have to put the old £1 coins into the slot to operate the boilers

Tier 3 - anybody know what this means for gyms and pools? The government site didn't really make it clear.

Jeremy Parkinson ● 2142d

The Government Website says "Tier 3: Leisure and sports facilities may continue to stay open, but group exercise classes (including fitness and dance) should not go ahead."

Thank you.

Bumped into a bloke coming out of the building and collered him to find out what's what.Seems like good news as he tell me good progress is being made to reopen when allowed to do so.Miracles of miracles it appears the boiler is now actually working! Volumes of steam billowing out the chimney into the morning air! However I have heard nothing from the council. It would be good to know how past Fusion members will be treated. Do we have to rejoin or what?

I wrote to the Leisure Department to ask what is happening and was told that there will be an online booking system and that they are working hard to get everything up and running by the 12th April. They didn’t say anything about annual subscriptions but I didn’t ask about that.

Susan Jennifer Thackray ● 2050d

Well done Susan and thank's for the information.I swam there at least three times a week and although I haven't put on weight I can tell I am not as fit as I was therefore keen to get back. Online booking makes perfect sense as I am sure numbers will be limited. I'm an early bird so hopefully it won't be too much of a problem for me.Can't wait.

Any news on the Brentford fountain pool?

Karen said hamdii ● 2050d

It is being used as a vaccination centre - https://www.nwlondonccgs.nhs.uk/news-publications-events/news/new-large-vaccination-centre-launches-brentford-fountain-leisure-centre-hounslow?utm_campaign=&utm_content=&utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery&utm_term=

I’ve now had a couple of emails from Lampton Leisure about the new system inviting me to re register. Apparently April and May will be free to subscribers. There will be an online booking scheme and if you are swimming, you must arrive wearing your swimsuit. It doesn’t say whether you can shower after your swim.

Susan Jennifer Thackray ● 2043d

"..if you are swimming, you must arrive wearing your swimsuit"That suggests the changing rooms are closed. So what do you do after your swim - put your clothes on top of a wet swimsuit ?

Richard Greenhough ● 2043d

'That suggests the changing rooms are closed. So what do you do after your swim - put your clothes on top of a wet swimsuit ?'They're no doubt operating the same system that my gym in Acton did until the latest lockdown: you arrive with your swimsuit under your clothes but are allowed to use the changing rooms afterwards. Remember to take some underwear in your bag.

It appears that the swimming pools are due to re-open on the 12th April. The Lampton Leisure website has timetables. If I am reading them correctly, there is no "general swim" at any pools but lots of "swim school", some designated in yellow and some in grey, with no further explanation. Brentford has a separate fun pool, but Chiswick doesn't, so does that mean that families cannot go there other than to properly swim?
