Hermes Delivery Issues

During the past week we have had two parcels supposedly delivered but weren’t received and a parcel left on our doorstep partly opened. Anybody else having problems with Hermes?

This often happens leading up to Christmas, always say order early if you can, and even better wait until after if possible.

Hermes have never been the best but for the first time this last week they have managed to completely lose a package sent to me. Ironically a replacement was then sent using a company called DX Express who also managed to fail to deliver on two separate occasions though it did get here eventually. I do think some delivery drivers are now giving up on trying to deliver in Chiswick when the traffic is too bad. I hear that taxis are also sometimes refusing fares for the same reason.

Spoken to three different delivery drivers, two were completely fed up with Brentford and Chiswick. The DPD driver was describing how he loads his van for a certain route, but now Chiswick is already messed up with more measures to come online he cannot load his van in an orderly fashion. So sorry some don’t get delivered by the time it gets to 10 pm.The Driver and I were talking near to a builders van when a guy lent out of the window, he let us know his feelings about London in general and he’s thinking of not taking any more work in the city as he can get enough work outside with a lot less hassle.

Yes, one of my neighbours was sent a photo of her parcel being delivered ... to someone else's doorstep.

Myself and others have had huge issues with Hermes recently.  Some companies can get it so right, and others (Hermes) so wrong.  And as a result more suffering to the retailer!

I too rate Hermes as poor.  But the worst in my experience is DHL, where something goes wrong with every delivery.  Recently they've dumped the parcel in my porch, not bothered to see if I'm at home, and have forged my signature.  I rate DPD as the best.

Since Covid came into our lives most delivery services (including Royal Mail) have amended their usual standards to remove the need for a signature in order to reduce customer contact. Unfortunately drivers, under pressure to meet their quotas, are taking advantage of this to just leave packages wherever they see fit. Mostly they ring the doorbell but don't wait for an answer, although sometimes I have found deliveries just sitting there when I have been at home all day. I now check at regular intervals just in case. Of course the thieves are now wise to this new opportunity; all they have to do is follow the delivery van from door to door. Easy pickings.

They have been recorded on the internet putting parcels outside of delivery address photographing it showing its been delivered then picking up the parcel putting it into the front of their vehicle and driving off so I suspect the drivers are having a wail of a time with our ordered goods, on one occasion driver was on bell cam and recorded when confronted by the home owner they at first denied this then when told they have been recorded then went on to plead with homeowner not to report him, so maybe this is your problem.

We also think DPD are the one of best .They have regular drivers.

Just had a Hermes delivery a few minutes ago – driver left parcel and drove off, didn't even knock. The package was on our doorstep, soaking wet and partially open. It's not even now raining so who knows where it's been. This was an item that, according to Hermes' records, was delivered at 3pm yesterday!

I have recently experienced difficulties with Hermes too. For 3 days in a row advising me that they tried to deliver and nobody was in and then after I complained to the company I ordered from and asked for a refund which I got, apologizing that Hermes lost the parcel, the parcel miraculously appeared on my doorstep a week later.

Yes we’ve had similar experiences with Hermes but also with Amazon.  Repeated text messages that they ‘tried to deliver but nobody answered’ when both of us were in all day.  And no attempts to call us.  When the Amazon stuff eventually arrived the driver explained that there had been a temporary driver who ‘didn’t know the area’!

Hermes are the cheapest and the worst.Their business model is using poorly paid zero hours contract people to do the final mile delivery. Added to their poor systems a lot of stuff goes "missing".Few months ago I had a iPhone which Hermes claimed to have tried to "deliver" to me 3 days running. They then claimed to be returning it to the depot. Naturally the phone was "lost" and I had to go through long process to claim money back.I have a camera on my front door and could prove that at no point on any of the 3 days did they "try to deliver". My guess is the delivery guy pinched it but they couldn't prove it because their systems are so poor.

DPD are dreadful. On three separate occasions they have delivered my package to a different street, although same house number. What makes it worse is that house is currently vacant and faces a public footpath. You couldn't make it up.

I was expecting a parcel today and was not thrilled to receive an email telling me that Hermes would be delivering it, given all of the above but it arrived safely within the advised time slot. So they can do it if they try!

Well we can expect deliveries to "South Chiswick" (anyone ever heard of that place until Hounslow invented it all by themselves) get considerably more confusing on Monday when the joys of enduring in Hartington Rd - a formerly Safe and extremely Liveable Neighbourhood - kick in!  No straight entry here,  from Monday it's round and round the houses and you get out the way you came in you delivery drivers!

I am still waiting for a delivery which was dispatched on the 3rd of November. The Hermes tracking service says "in Transit", but I think is lost now.Received refund from seller though.

I think we have to blame all this "free delivery" business which has led to a race to the bottom. None of the courier companies are immune to this pressure and nor are retailers. I remember when Hermes was just a cheap and cheerful option for bits and bobs bought from ebay; now John Lewis and M&S use them too. I see that Amazon have started using their own delivery vans - that is to say they have the Amazon logo on them.I think that UPS are probably still OK, though I gather that even they don't always deal with the final mile themselves.

Not overly impressed by Hermes either. The drivers are under huge pressure , are poorly trained and managed by incompetents. Many are also still under the impression that Royal Mail is owned by us. It was sold off (hugely underpriced, of course, under Vince Cable). It’s not as poor as Hermes but the race to the bottom continues. However, we have a very good postman!

Thank you for bringing to our attention. We only buy where they track and then husband waits outside to pick it up. We had neighbours finding they parcels somewhere in the building so basically every Deliveroo driver etc could take it.

Katja Urban ● 2153d

Great news to hear how bad you’re all finding deliveries, hopefully it will encourage you to support bricks & mortar shops at this crucial time.

Mark Talbot ● 2153d

Having received from Hermes a photo of what was most definitely NOT our front door, trying to prove successful delivery,at least i can now report that a second package has been received safe and sound.  Thank you to Coopers of Stortford for their great customer service in getting this sorted.

Maybe you should boycott Hermes anyway. Their reputaion is in tatters.  An undercover investigation has revealed the most appalling cruelty concerning their exotic skin products:https://investigations.peta.org/crocodile-alligator-slaughter-hermes/

Afraid you've mixed up your Hermes, Juliet. The thread is about the delivery firm.
