Vaccine priority

I'm pleased to read in this morning's Times that the government has had a rethink about the priority it had set up based solely on age. It made no sense to me that a healthy 70-year-old should be vaccinated ahead of a younger person with diabetes, blood cancer or an organ transplant.I'm glad that they've been able to be flexible on this.

Agree and think the sick should have priority across the board, it's good to have a flexible Government.

As of this week, the CCG says that the first vaccines will go to NHS staff, care homes and the workers there

It makes sense to cover NHS workers and those who are sick or attending hospital across the board, then those visiting hospitals for treatment will not be infected.

'There is of course the view that they were trying out on the elderly first 😏 bit naughty of me I know, but .......'Amusingly, the latest YouGov poll shows that 73% of us are willing to be vaccinated bu that about half of those would prefer someone else to be done first -- not out of altruism or after-you-ism but to see what happens.

Not when they find out that the Oxford vaccine is made from monkey dung, Janice. I heard that information on a BBC Radio science programme at lunchtime today.

So when I've had a vaccine, do I get an 'I've had the jab!' badge or certificate so I can get a drink at a bar and talk loudly and mask-free to fellow vaccinees, or have raving vaccine parties, or face-to-face vaccinees only meetings, or go into non-essential shops banned to others, or push past people to get on the tube, just like we did before?  Or do we have to wait until everyone's been done?

Peter I expect we will require a vaccination certificate re Coronavirus with our passport to go abroad next year; possible we may also require one to go to Scotland after the Scottish elections next year. When I worked in Nairobi many years ago and travelled in Africa I was required to have a number of various up to date vaccination certificates with my passport.

I can see we might need to show something to get on a plane or visit another country, as we do with traditional travel jabs, but I'm questioning the widespread belief that those who've had the vaccine can 'get back to normal', and literally eat, drink and be merry, while the rest of us still have to look on from a socially safe distance.

It seems Qantas were the first to come out with a 'no jab, no fly' policy which has the anti-vaxxers foaming at the mouth and threatening to boycott the airline. I wonder how many anti-vaxxers will ditch their cause once they realise they can't fly off on holiday without a certificate should this become a requirement.

On Monday he said:"If it works we should be able to offer those who test negative the prospect of fewer restrictions - for example, meeting up in certain places with others who have also tested negative".I would say this is wildly optimistic, if not completely unfeasible...

Johnson also said that it will all be over by Christmas, that the Track and Trace would be world-beating(when just workable would have done) , neglected advice, endangered his own health and that of his family and colleagues and lined the pockets of his chums.

Or have you worked in vaccine development in an way?If not, I suggest you stop passing off such spurious and dangerous statements as fact These vaccines have been developed in record time it's true, but that's down to the commitment and brilliance of large numbers of people far more brilliant that those who do their research via YouTube can even begin to comprehend. This is combined with the resources of the entire world being thrown at these projects.These vaccines build on work done during the SARS and MERS outbreaks we saw over recent years, which are very similar viruses. They also take advantage of platforms which allow accelerated development of new vaccines.
