Staveley Road School Street

Part of email received from LBOH todayWith regards to the Staveley Road school street for Chiswick School, this will also not provide residential access. However, this is only in operation for two hours a day from Monday – Friday, at all other times residents are free to drive along this section of Staveley Road. Burlington Lane remains open to traffic at all times. More on this school street scheme can be found here: https://www.hounslow.gov.uk/info/20053/transport/2181/south_chiswick_liveable_neighbourhood/8  Please note that these are trial schemes and therefore we are keen on receiving your feedback on these measures throughout the trial period, which will be reviewed before determining if they should continue beyond this time, or be changed or removed – therefore, should you wish to share any feedback/suggestion(s) that you believe could improve the scheme, please feel free to share them with us via the Streetspace Feedback page.  More information on the background to the projects can be found here, along with a list of FAQs; https://tinyurl.com/southchiswick  Chiswick School StreetThis School Street scheme will introduce A “No Motor Vehicle” access restriction on a section of Staveley Road between the A316 and Burlington Lane. Road users will be made aware of these restrictions by the placement of a “no motor vehicles” sign with the times these are in operation (8:00 – 9:00am and 2:45 – 3:45pm Monday to Friday). These restrictions will not apply to buses, delivery vehicles or school staff. Residential exemptions will not be issued as residential properties are not located within the scheme area. This closure of the road at school start and end times further supports the additional closure measures on Staveley Road, to remove a high proportion of through traffic that uses the road to connect between the A316 and A4.  Access will be retained to the street for those residents and students who are walking or cycling. A copy of a letter explaining the scheme in more detail can be viewed below, alongside a copy of the plan showing the extents of the scheme.Planhttps://www.hounslow.gov.uk/downloads/file/2817/chiswick_school    • Expected implementation date: November 2020     • Interim review: Feb/March 2021     • First formal review: May/June 2021

However, this is only in operation for two hours a day from Monday – Friday, at all other times residents are free to drive along this section of Staveley Road. Burlington Lane remains open to traffic at all times. I would say if the school street only operates Mon  to Fri , that means it doesn’t operate Sat , Sun.I would have though it will only operate in term time only .LBOH have made a mistake about no residents living in school part of Staveley Road. There is one house and two off road parking spaces at the cemetery end of the road. There are pre warnings signs in Burlington lane and the A316 with the timings on , cameras on each end of the road along with the other signage. But since the bridge was blocked off in Dan Mason Drive, there has an increase of traffic on Riverside Drive plus the residents of two housing estates the have only one way out via the traffic lights of the A316.But there isn’t any pre warning signs on Riverside Drive to inform a motorist that there is a school street ahead of them, until they have driven across the lights and into the road, as the main signs are not on the end of the road, they are further in near to the school gate according to the plan, which is where the camera is sited on a lamp post also near to the school gate. But what about the car parking down this part of Staveley Road, by the time the school street kicks in the road will be full of parked cars, who park so near near to the corner of Staveley Road and Burlington Lane a bus has a really hard time turning into the road, will these cars be prevented from Parking on the school street times or just left there on both sides of the road, which is defeating the whole idea of a safe street.

AndrewThere is no pre warning signs of a school street on Riverside Drive, as there are on Burlington Lane and the A316.The traffic lights with Riverside Drive  and  the A316 is the only entry / exit for two large estates and public park with containing many sport’s clubs. The traffic due to the railway bridge in Dan Mason Drive drive being closed has to use this junction. So in theory while exiting the junction without seeing a pre warning sign with the closure times, a vehicle is more likely to drive into the school street .Going by the map link given by LBOH, it seems the the signs will be place by the first island just after the house in Staveley Road, along with the camera. So does that mean you can drive into Staveley Road and enter the Chiswick New Cemetery and visit the house with out collecting a fine in the school street times.Quiet honestly, making this small bit of road a school road is not going to be much use, unless Chiswick School is going to stop using the Burlington Lane exit. When Chiswick School turns out, pupils turn out it’s like letting a cork out of a bottle, A good number use Burlington lane to catch the train at Chiswick station and they don’t stick to the pavements when near the row of shops. Also a lot of pupils use the A316 to catch the bus home and cross to their homes in the two estates. There is nothing to keep them safe, so only the percentage of pupils that use the Staveley Road exit for the E3 bus are the ones to kept safe, by a tiny part of the road.I think there really needs to be a rethink on all the measure being installed, as LBOH are slowly boxing every one in and not really making any local people safe.
