Leaf clearing

Anybody seen any sign of the above?  They were knee deep in the gutters in Thornton Avenue to-day.

No sign in Hounslow but green bags pilled up in Woodstock Rd on the Ealing side. Most residents in my street are sweeping the pavement but the gutters are increasingly turning into deep sludge in the galleys which in turn will end up blocking the drains. In some places big piles of leaf matter have been started but the delivery vans think this is a space for them and creating an oawful mess. With the exception of the lime trees, all the rest are now naked and the Council really must come and get the mess cleared.

Have you reported this on fix my street?

No money.  Spent it all on ensuring traffic including buses and ambulances are gridlocked and on cycle lanes deep in leaves and rainwater that no one uses.  How very sensible.

This autumn, for a change, I have actually seen LBH clearing leaves. Maybe it's just because under covid conditions I'm outside more and so am noticing these things.

Well I hope you're dong your bit and sweeping up outside your property- good way to exercise too while helping our wonderful caring council!

I reported about this for Thames Road. Two days later I received a message from HH to say that the work had been completed. It hadn't!

They were doing this on Strand on the Green opposite Pier Laundry and the Steam Packet, yesterday, 17th November, morning.  The trouble only the leaves in the gutter were taken, leaving drifts of leaves on the pavement beside the wall, which any wind will move.  I do not understand why the vacuum hose is not extended manually to deal with these.

Jennifer, I live in a tree-free street.

Ken Munn ● 2171d

I don't live there. I was parking. It is good of people to sweep the pavements but leaving them in the gutters causes another problem, that of rotting piles of mulch.

"I live in a tree-free street"I didn't realise such things were allowed in leafy Chiswick.

Once upon a time when we didn't have to pay for garden collection we would all add them to our garden waste bins. The Environment Agency considers street leaf sweepings to be far too polluted with all types of nasties now to compost:https://www.recyclingwasteworld.co.uk/in-depth-article/why-the-agency-is-not-for-turning-on-street-leaf-litter/71172/I've yet to hear of any changes. Some roads or parts of roads will collect leaves more than others and the weather does run to a timetable either so just running to a timetable isn't very useful.  That is why if you have enormous piles of leaves in your road and it is getting dangerous it is a good idea to make a report.  For LBH:  https://fms.hounslowhighways.org/

* weather does NOT run to a timetable of course!
