Rima Jones ● 2177d23 Comments

Yes, I think he did.

Karen Foster ● 2177d

Any idea where he lived Karen?

Rima Jones ● 2177d

He was my next door neighbour in Netheravon Road.

Adrian Irving ● 2177d

Great. Thanks

Rima Jones ● 2177d

Sorry to be hi-jacking, but the Chiswick authors thread seems a long time ago and it has got very big....I don't know why I didn't think of it before but is Stewart Binns on the list? After making some cracking TV programmes (one of which employed me for many years) Stewart really hit his stride as a novelist. Just when most of us were contemplating retirement Stewart started writing fiction and currently has seven published novels to his name as well as some factual books too. He now lives in Somerset and France. He lived for a while in Bedford Park then in one of the riverside  apartmentsat Corney Reach.

I think he also lived in Thames Road near the Riverview Road corner.

David Lovegrove ● 2177d

John Paddy Carstairs also lived in Netheravon Road for a while.Artist, writer, prolific film Producer/director, and good pal of my father. His brother, Basil Keys was producer on Zulu.Carstairs changed his name form Keys because he didn't want to live in the shadow  his celebrated father, Nelson Keys.

Brilliant. Thank you.I’m now sorting out writers for the timeline and doing a lot of searching so that’s really helpful.

Rima Jones ● 2176d

Did he live in Chiswick? Elliot Road?

Rima Jones ● 2175d

Rima Jones ● 2175d

Yes he did. Strange , 2 Z Cars actors within walking distance of one another.

John C Seymour ● 2172d

James Ellis was a regular in the Tabard.

Bruce Hammal ● 2172d

Who was the other Z cars actor John?

Rima Jones ● 2172d

He was Bruce..And according to my old records his last address in W4 was NOT on the Glebe Estate - he had a lovely flat in Bedford House on The Avenue - 2 minutes from The Tab...

Stuart Kerr ● 2172d

Bruce?

Rima Jones ● 2172d

Elliot Road isn’t on the Glebe Estate.Jimmy’s son Adam ,28, was murdered on a towpath by the river in West London in 1988.

Rima Jones ● 2172d

I'm not an expert on this Rima, but I guess the other Z Cars actor referred to would be James Grout. Perhaps someone better informed could comment. I didn't often go into the Tabard way back when, but if I did there was always a fair chance that Jimmy Ellis would be in there!

Bruce Hammal ● 2172d

Yes Rima..  Jimmy's private life included a few other tragedies best left off here..Wonderful actor and director though.  One of my favourite memories of his work was a tiny cameo with "Yosser Hughes"  in Boys From The Blackstuff - as an alcoholic..The flat in Bedford House is accurate so mark it down as fact..

Stuart Kerr ● 2172d

After he had moved out of London with his partner Jimmy Ellis often popped into the Tabard when he was in town working.  On one occasion when we were chatting I asked where he had moved to and it turned out to be the village in Nottinghamshire where I had grown up!!

David Marles ● 2172d

We already have James Grout on the long thread. He lived at 62 Esmond Road so it’s likely that he did pop into The Tabard to see his z-cars friends.

Rima Jones ● 2172d

Jimmy Ellis was also a translator and wrote poems and prose.“Troubles Over the Bridge”“The Last Days are Left Behind 2008“The Fairytale Thief” 2013Poetry”Domestic Flight” 1998“Home and Away” 2002“Ten Tales and Three Dreams” 2002Z cars ( Bert Lynch )  629 Episodes 1962 -78So is eligible for the Timeline of Chiswick Writers.

Rima Jones ● 2172d

The other Z Cars actor I most often saw was Bernard Holley.  I don't recall James Grout.

David Marles ● 2172d

Did Bernard Holley live in Chiswick?
