Hounslow coronavirus rules

Is it actually part of the covid 19 rules that you are not allowed to walk down the road drinking a can of coke?? My daughter's boyfriend has just been threatened with a fine by some council workers on Turnham Green if he didn't throw his drink away. What authority do they have to do this?

Sounds very suspect!Couldn’t find anywhere where it says the act of drinking in the street is prohibited by the National restrictions that came in on Nov 5th.I guess you daughter’s boyfriend didn’t ask for the ID of the council workers. Were they CEOs? You are meant to have valid reason to be out I think, but that’s entirely different to a prohibition on drinking.

And if I walk down the road with a takeaway coffee in my hand would I be told to throw it away ?

Exactly! And he was just out taking exercise at our closest open space - they clearly just didn't like the look of him. Maybe another money raising exercise by the council

What did he do, Melanie? Did he comply with this outrageous demand? I'd have been tempted to call their bluff.

Cash strapped Hounslow Council now have an army of enforcement officers who know they will lose their job unless they issue a certain amount of fines. Expect more of this sort of thing going on in the future.

Even Hounslow and its 'enforcement officers' can't just make up things to fine us for. Reminds me of that Not The Nine O'Clock News sketch in which Rowan Atkinson's policeman arrests a man for 'being in possession of an offensive wife'.

I remember the sketch Susan -.so true !!!

Helen Bamberger ● 2178d

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teSPN8sVbFUI mis-remembered. Atkinson is the senior officer upbraiding the other chap. I hope it doesn't give Hounslow ideas. 'Loitering with intent to use a pedestrian crossing'!

I note that in that sketch "coloured gentleman" (as said by Atkinson) was presumably regarded as an acceptable usage by the BBC, whereas now the term is regarded as a resignation matter.

He  complied and threw it away - he can't afford a big fine from Hounslow Council. I assume they pick on young people who look like they don't have much money

Melanie Williams ● 2178d

No, that is not right at all. Unless they want to a thousand others drinking takeaway coffees and juices. They sound like total morons and should be fined themselves for harassment.

Melanie, they could highly be frauds, just trying it on to scare him into handing over money (robbery basically). I have read about this before. Report it to police please and ask your daughter and her boyfriend to give descriptions and location of where it happened. No it's not normal at all. Its highly illegal what they were trying.
