No right turn sign back at CHR/Dukes Ave junction

A couple of weeks back there was a no right turn sign placed at this junction, stopping Glebe Estate residents from getting onto the Glebe Estate by what is now the only way in from the high road.Tonight it is back and I sat with my right indicator on, being tooted by traffic behind me who clearly have no notion of the hideous situation we are now in.I’m tempted to go and remove it but don’t want to get in trouble. What can we do?

Easy solution LBH, reopen Devonshire Road again and give us back our freedom!

Your only way off the high road is Brackley Road.Incidentally, Cranbrook Road is now a rat run to get onto chiswick Lane if you're travelling east on the high road.

Utter lunacy. I have emailed Mark Frost.

The aim is to shunt even more traffic down Sutton Court Road.Your are supposed to go from CHR to SCR, turn left on to Barrowgate Road or Wavendon Av and get to Duke's Avenue that way.Of course if you were going to Glebe St that means you have done 3.75 sides of a rectangle (rather than the 0.25 side if you had simply turned right from CHR to Dukes Avenue) with the obvious result of more pollution and even worse jams on SCR but that was what LBH wanted

We should fire Hounslow council what they are doing to Chiswick residents is unbelievable!

I know this may sound strange but ii was coping pretty well with the pandemic, as a single working parent, but this whole business has really taken a pounding on my mental health. The people who have introduced these changes don’t seem to care less about mental health. It’s all about physical health (pollution, exercise etc) but there is meant to be parity between mental and physical health in terms of its importance in the UK but this is clearly of no concern to Hounslow Council. If only we COULD sack them but I suspect we’re stuck with them. Politicians is possibly another matter, assuming we can get to the bottom of who supported all this lunacy and extricate the truth from all the finger-pointing.

So is Dukes Avenue a one-way street now?  Or can you still turn left if you're going westbound on Chiswick High Road?

Micki Hawkes ● 2188d

"assuming we can get to the bottom of who supported all this lunacy"That's easy. It would be some of our neighbors who think it best your opinion and experience means nothing. Your quality of life means even less to them. Those with more public profiles include:Karen LiebreichPaul CampbellEdward SeatonTom PikeMichael RobinsonTony Smart (possibly an avatar for the above)John StroudRuth MayorcasMark Frost doesn't give a shit unless it comes from any of the above.

Having seen this junction a few times it seemed inevitable that the right turn would be banned, it causes long delays. Not a surprise and why the full CS9 plan kept a right turn space. That was of course before the closures of both DR and Dukes Rd southbound. So where does this leave residents. Some kind of u turn or facing a diversion down Sutton Court and then cutting through Wavendon to Dukes Av and the into Glebe. A mile detour to travel a few hundred yards.Remember, Hounslow claims these road closures are about reducing congestion and air pollution. Tom Pike will claim that DR is seeing cleaner air so we ALL are benefiting. Other lobbyists claim traffic displacement is a myth, given how busy Sutton Crt road is at times I am sure local residents will relish more traffic. Not to forget residents on roads such as Wavendon who face more traffic. It is ludicrous and massive hyprocisy. Shout as loud as you can, but I am afraid David is right and you need to drown out the willful misinformation from those that have the ears of local decision makers. Remember, those same decision makers are members of a small lobby group that is actively campaigning in favour of all these closures and mocking those who dare oppose them.

The no-right-turn sign has been REMOVED by TfL a few minutes ago, after I complained.I was alerted to the reappearance of the sign this morning by two residents of Duke Road. There weren't any traffic management staff around then, but later I found one taking a phone call outside a hut in the works compound in Duke Road.  He didn't know why the sign had been put there but agreed that it shouldn't be there, as a right turn is allowed under the cycleway scheme.  He then walked up to the sign and removed it, and brought it back to the compound. He only removed the circular sign; the framework and sandbag weight are still there.  If the sign reappears, please PM me.

That's brilliant Richard, thank you!

Chris Blackwell ● 2187d

Yes, well done Richard!

Michael Dempsey ● 2187d

Yes thanks a lot for sorting this out, Richard.  You've saved a lot of people a lot of hassle.

Marie Power ● 2187d

The sign removed by TfL this afternoon was on the corner by Lloyds Bank.  I found another No-Right-Turn sign this evening outside NatWest.  Not sure if it was there this morning.  It's a lightweight plastic sign. It's now face down on the pavement.  Perhaps the wind blew it over.  ;-)

MUch as Richard's community spirited actions are welcome, the delays caused by right turn traffic mean its only a matter of time before TFL/ Hounslow ban the right turn. Something will then have to change to allow residents and trades to access their homes.Richard, what measures would they need to do that?Local residents be on your guard!

I was talking to my neighbour last night who’s son now walks the 2 miles to school and back as it is quicker than the bus!He found the bike journey too dangerous and apparently a few boys been mugged on their way home to add insult. This will only get worse and the council need to sort this shambles out.We cannot go on like this, one day you can turn right, the next day you can’t and I wasted another 45 mins of my life on the HR getting home, unacceptable.

James you misunderstand the purpose:1) the child is walking which is a good healthy thing2) it provides "employment" opportunities to the local mugger community3) Mugging is a form of wealth redistribution which of course LBH Labour party firmly believe in!

that has to win the forum funniest 2020 post award, ty for bringing some joy.

It seems that the Queen came along Chiswick High Road and Turnham Green Terrace this morning, no doubt to see what all the fuss is about. Maybe she can get them to change their minds
