Instant Pot Duo crisp air fryer. Reviews anyone?

A friend has recommended it to me. Says it’s amazing for crisping, baking bread and cakes, stews and sous vide and steaming. Sounds to good to be true. Don’t want yet another gadget gathering dust but it does sound useful. https://www.johnlewis.com/instant-pot-duo-crisp-air-fryer/p5101905?sku=238912861&s_ppc=2dx92700057212718488&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=Cj0KCQjwxNT8BRD9ARIsAJ8S5xZFh0mrZgaqwjMD4pIMlVGcx0a__h9EyhedzsoG4Yy4KafK65BRNvAaAld-EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

It’s meant to be great, I havent got one but read lots of good reviews. Don’t forget it’s also a pressure cooker, that is the main function I use - it’s so useful. I have a regular IP (made pre the Crisp, so no air fryer function) and a separate air fryer. If/when my IP bites the dust I’ll buy an IP Crisp, or a Ninja Foodi which has the same functions and also reviewed really favourably. .

Dont get to carried away with the air fryer function I am on my second stand alone air fryer and both have not exactly cripsed everything i have put in. They are all basically a fan sitting above a heating element. Cook, yes Brown yes Crisp, debatable unless you soak some item in oil before cooking.

RaeStrangely enough that is the first one i purchased .Dont get me wrong, they are great and safe while walking away and let it do the job but not all things crisp but do brown. For £40 id say it is worth buying I remember that if your cooking breakfast for 4 people you could put 12 decent sausages inside leaning up around the sides like a prawn ring and 15 mins later they were fully cooked and totally even and brown. You can put a stake inside and put temp right down and cook it slow to your prefered liking and whack it up high to brown it off each sdie for a few mins in need be.

Three sausages per person for breakfast, Julian? If you add two fried eggs, fried potatoes, fried tomatoes and mushrooms, and baked beans, invite me round!I'll bring a few loaves along for the toast. You can call the ambulance.

Ha You forgot the fried bread and black pudding Well, I very rarely have a fry up breakfast but apart from the occasional HRH breakfast it normally will be when all five of us are under one roof with a hangover when the full works is needed. Normally one alcoholic drink at the earliest reasonable possible time finishes the hangover process. I thought a big old tart was your prefered remedy Roger

Is there one that does roast potatoes.

Janice Evans ● 2195d

They all do roast potatoes Janice if you lightly coat the potatoes in oil and again when tossing them halfway in cooking. Otherwise, they will just come out cooked and browned but not crispy. They are called air fryers because a fan runs above the element which then blows the hot air around from the element while the element browns.Just think of an electric grill and what that does if you put a potato underneath, its the same outcome but in a concealed container with a fan blowing the heat around

Thanks.

Do these mini cookers need heat protect mat under them to protect worktop and does the mini oven/grill (not air fryer) do crispy roast potatoes, anyone know please.  My built in electric oven not working and don't want anyone in to fit a new one yet due to Covid.

Just to chip in to this one, these tend to be sold as replacements to deep fat fryers, they are not.HOWEVERThey do cook the best roast Pork belly or loin with the best crackling ever. Also good as a small oven, for chicken breasts and so on, just bring down he temperature and the time; ideally use a thermometer

Thank you Nick.

Hi, sorry to be a pain, are the grill/oven (not air fry) temperature controlled I.e switch on and off during cooking to avoid overheating.
