Making use of lovely clothes of my deceased friend

I am the person responsible for the life's goods of a dear friend who we lost to cancer. I'm trying to find a charity to take his clothes. He was a very clean and tidy man aged 64. I have contacted Crisis, only to be told that whey only accept new clothes. My friend has lots of clean and, almost new, jumpers, jeans, coats etc.if anyone can give me an idea of how to make good use of his lovely things I'd be grateful. He always helped those in need, He would want them to go to to people who were in need. Can anyone give me an idea?It breaks my heartthanksTina

The Upper Room in Cobbold Road W12 may be very glad of the informal clothes for their visitors.

I understand that at the moment Covid is an issue with items taken from someone's home, but my friend died in early 2019.

Tina Browne ● 2196d

The Whitechapel Mission is always in need of clothes, particularly underwear, socks, coats, shoes, boots etc.  They will also take toilettries, dry food, sleeping bags, etc. Fantastic organisation, that provides breakfast for up to 600 people a day as well as advice & support. They were so grateful for my Dad's stuff and it was nice it was so appreciated. Whitechapel.org.ukGood luck.

Liz, do you have a contact? Would they collect?

Tina Browne ● 2196d

I've just checked their website and you can arrange a collection. I don't have a specific contact but anytime I've phoned whoever I get through to is extremely helpful.Their numbers are 03000 111 400 or 0207 247 8280. Email: mission@whitechapel.org.uk. Information about items they need & the collection service is under the "Support Us" & "Ways to Donate". They also took some of Dad's suits for the men to use for interviews or family meetings.Lovely people and a very worthwhile cause, particularly with winter coming up, a hot breakfast can be vital.

Jojo Finn ● 2194d

Jojo - I've sent you a PM just a few minutes ago please post on here if you have not received it - I put Men's clothes" in the subject box.My neighbour volunteers helping destitute refugees who have fled their war-torn homes mostly Syria with nothing but what they stood up in - they have nothing!  He's tried emailing Tina ut she has not replied.  This is part of his request to me:-" ----- one of my group – gentleman of 65 – had only a flimsy pair of jogging bottoms, an old sports jacket and some canvas shoes. I have never seen him in anything else. He is probably about 6 ft tall, waist maybe 34/36, chest 42/44?"  Can you Jojo help, or maybe someone else on here can.  Please send me a PM.

The Fara on Turnham Green Terrace is taking donations. I see people dropping off bags of items whenever I visit the shop.

Laurel Wolfe ● 2192d

Sorry on oxygen impossible to risk struggling to drive there through the traffic delays and inability to find a parking space once I did manage to enter TGT - then there's the return journey back into Grove Park.

Jennifer Selig ● 2192d

Does anyone on here know what happened to Tina's deceased friend's clothes?

Jennifer Selig ● 2192d

Dear LizI wanted to thank you for the suggestion of The Whitechapel mission. We dropped off a van load of coats, clothes, shoes, bedding etc yesterday and they were extremely grateful. It was evident that they really are a hands on operation. We did also give winter woollens to a local refugee charity.I know my friend would be happy that his things were being put to good use.

Tina Browne ● 2179d

Lovely to hear that your friend's things will be made good use of.

Philippa Bond ● 2179d

Dear TinaThank you for letting me know that you decided to donate your friend's clothing to The Whitechapel Mission as well as a local charity. I am sure your friend would have been happy.  You have now spurred me on to have a bit of rummage to see if I have anything tucked away!
