More LTN's for Chiswick

Difficult to tell from the outline plans. Key thing is to write to Shapps. Explain the impact - overall, and personally. Outline the lack of full consultation - mention the Commonplace survey tool, which at best could show where hot spots were, but now that’s being palmed off as consultation. Underline that the implementation was done without any consultation at all..shappsg@parliament.uk

"Bath Road" Would that be the likes of Abinger road because cars are now doing rat runs through to the Avenue when traffic build up on Bath Road. Most likely the traffic that once used CHR and TGT now using bath road. Is it a case of shut one,push traffic elsewhere and then create new rat runs which then need dealing with and suddenly you have pushed all traffic up one road which will in time be a disaster. Luckily we have light traffic until and issue crops up somewhere else and the traffic increases as people have limited routes to take.

I fear this is another example of the favoured "whack-a-mole" strategy. In fact it's the same process that follows the introduction of a new CPZ - potentially the process is never-ending. The Abinger Road route is an old favourite when Bath Road is clogged, but you have to be a bit of gambler to use it. Since cars can't pass from both directions at the same time, you can just find yourself in an alternative jam. To that extent the rat-run (for that's what it is) has always been self-regulating. Still, shove  in another couple of planters by all means - gridlock is gridlock no matter how you cut it.

If you take south parade and congestion id guess in time that more people will use the other roads to get to Acton lane etc. Why not bath road,abinger road and then other options to get to Acton lane even if you needing to get to the south partof acton lane. I see in busy hours more cars coming out of Bleneim road than ever before and we are not back to what it once was but only time holding that one up. Those on woodstock road and all sarounding roads are on the clock until it picks up again. You dont need to be that well clued up to know what is likely coming down the road in time as many will avoid CHR like the plague and your options are then limited and possibly in time even more limited. I wonder if some have any forward thinking for the future outcome

Surely this is working like CPZ's you just move the problem you don't solve it.  Closing Bath Road, its so mad it may well happen.  I've sent my e-mail to Grant Shapps.  One liner, as I doubt anyone is going to read them all, certainly won't be him.

When we first moved here 30 years ago I used to get angry at all the traffic chaos in the narrower parts of Abinger Road.  Now I just experience schadenfreude (as long as our car isn't parked anywhere nearby.) But there are danger areas, such as the junctions with Addison Grove and Blenheim Rd, and I have witnessed many prangs.  I'd welcome some measures to stop the rat running, but if drivers aren't rat running up Abinger Rd, they'll be doing this up some other handy road and annoying other residents who aren't as sanguine as me!

Lucy Do you think in time that Abinger Rd will become a consistant increased rat run when things change. And do you think Abinger Rd is possibly down as one of the roads to have a LTN. Taking bath road being mentioned,it looks pretty clear cut to me,where else on Bath road would a LTN be needed other than Rupert Road leading onto Bedford road and alike. You cant put a LTN on bath road itself. That would definately be chaos

I have no idea what the council plans. What they should do is plan for the whole area and look at the potential knock-on effect rather than trying to sort out individual roads.  If the idea is to reduce car use in general, then this needs mass education, rather than erratic road closures.  I hope Abinger Road will be included.  Drivers should be encouraged to drive up Emilyn Road, Askew Road, Acton Lane or The Avenue, as these are main roads, rather than up narrow residential roads such as Abinger Road.  Can’t see them shutting Bath Rd, but who knows?

Coordinated, joined up approach, one created in consultation and partnership with the community - that’s what’s needed. Not this secretive closed doors planning, that’s looks more and more like they’re making it up, road by road, as they go along. Dangerous experiment too, they’re playing Russian roulette with road users - especially cyclists.

If they block off Wavendon Avenue I am not at all sure that I will ever be able to drive home again ... I'll be stuck in an endless loop of traffic.

The more the protest grows, the more Hounslow seem to be determined to double down, unlike in Redbridge for example where another predominantly Labour council had held up its hands, admitted they got it wrong and will reverse the measures. Clearly there's no hope that Hounslow will follow suit, the question is with so many massive egos involved will they even look at the evidence? A government overrule would appear to be the best hope for W4.

The theory behind these so-called LTNs is that traffic is redirected to so-called distributor roads of which Bath Road would be one.The problem is that any closure will mean that some traffic will be diverted to a previously quiet road so these schemes are inherently divisive. As has pointed out they are a bit like CPZs because you might need to introduce on because an adjacent area is directing traffic your way. There already seems to be some tension between Hounslow and Ealing over the way the latters LTNs are causing congestion in Sywncombe Avenue. The danger is we get into a tit-for-tat situation in which local authorities are retaliating for another apparently setting up a scheme which sends them all the traffic. For instance Ealing might feel it necessary to but a barrier up at the junction of Bedford Corner and South Parade to protect the latter from traffic from Hounslow's LTN.
