We are all keen to have quiet and safe streets that all local residents can use whether on foot, on bikes, scooters or cars. What we do not want is this insane "war on the car" causing detours, additional air pollution and 24/7 sledge hammers to crack nuts. The latest update that Chiswick Riverside Cllrs have received is that the ANPR cameras are on their way and that Hounslow Highways have their installation in the work programme for the end of October and early November. In practice this means that the cameras will not be in place until mid-November at the earliest and will then have to be run in test mode. The ANPR cameras will be installed in Hartington Road, Thames Rd, Strand on the Green, Grove Park Terrace, St Thomas's Road and the A316 end of Staveley Road. We understand that the council have relented and will not be erecting an ANPR camera in Edensor Rd ((gosh another place name borrowed from Derbyshire - how weird) An ANPR camera installed at the eastern of the long drag of Staveley Road would have been a real deterrent to rat runners. But no - Hounslow Council had to install their macho brightly coloured (but ineffective) diagonal barrier at the junction of Park and Staveley Roads(wow whatever next a street in Chiswick named after Staveley a nice village in Cumbria). If ANPR cameras had been purchased and installed at the start of the process on Hartington, SOG and the school end of Staveley  in June/July we could all have judged if a barrier at Harvard Hill was really necessary or just a massive in convenience to locals actually making life less safe for pedestrians and cyclists.
