Forum Warning - Lycra L****

According to an article in today's Times there is currently a consultation on proscribing the term 'Lycra Lout' as a hate crime.Given that Chiswick is soon to be over-run by cyclists, many of the Lycra tribe, it is clear that care will need to be taken on this Forum when discussing matters cycling. You have been warned.

Most of us thought Big Brother was a fantasy. 1984 now seems to have been a prediction.

Claire Moran ● 2221d

Well, obviously the fact that lycra louts are the world's most hated sub-species has finally hit home so some lycra ninny has called for a consultation. PS. I haven't read the article and have no intention of doing so.

This stinks of something concocted in order to rally the usual suspects to bleat about the ‘nanny state’ and political correctness gone mad.  It’s not real.  Say what you like about cyclists.  You’re safe.

Alastair Banton ● 2221d

There does not seem to be any such article. Would you be kind enough to provide a link.

Carl Wynne ● 2221d

Any other suggestions ?Btw Spandex is the same as Lycra so how about...Spandex SapOr even Spandex Ballet ?Just having a bit of fun 😉

Loraine Pemberton ● 2220d

I think Lycra lout is a quite restrained description.

Keith Iddon ● 2220d

Sorry, don't have the expertise to give you a link. The article can be found on P14 under the heading - Calling cyclists Lycra louts 'a hate crime'.As far as I'm aware today is not the 1st April.

David Millar ● 2220d

Laugh had me thinking it was April fools day.

Paul Jennings ● 2220d

Couldn’t find the article but this one made me laugh. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7076021/One-fed-local-laying-Shropshire-lanes-booby-traps-send-Lycra-louts-sprawling.html

It's an exaggeration by Mr Millar, who, not suprisingly, did not want to provide the link.  It's not a consultation, it's just a campaign by some lycra nutters:- https://www.msn.com/en-gb/cars/news/campaigners-call-for-abuse-of-cyclists-to-be-made-a-hate-crime/ar-BB19yIjk

Good to know you find criminal damage a cause for amusement.

If 'lycra lout' is to be an unacceptable expression, maybe it can be joined by 'rat run'!

Peter Evans ● 2220d

The Times? You believe everything you read in this rag?

Basil Finnis ● 2220d

Same goes for the guardian. Headline scaremongering at the best of times. Another rag

Julian Pavey ● 2220d

"Good to know you find criminal damage a cause for amusement."Happy for you, Dickie, that you find some good in it. Criminal damage!!  LOL

Steve Taylor ● 2220d

Lol, the Aussies call them budgie smugglers 😂😂😂

Donna Fraser ● 2220d

Would you find an article about someone slashing car tyres overnight amusing, or is the random element of chance as to whether a cyclist gets a puncture that you find amusing, or perhaps whether they'll come off their bike after getting a puncture?Maybe you could look up some stories about concrete slabs being dropped off bridges onto vehicles below for some more laughs.

Andrew Jones ● 2220d

PS If it wasn't obvious, that last comment was addressed to Steve Taylor, no one else.

Andrew Jones ● 2220d

"Would you find an article about someone slashing car tyres overnight amusing,"Depends on the circumstances / provocation. "Maybe you could look up some stories about concrete slabs being dropped off bridges onto vehicles below for some more laughs."Don't be so silly. What a ridiculous analogy to suggest.

Steve Taylor ● 2220d

I just love a good budgie smuggler - the closest I get nowadays to some very happy long gone memories.  What's the consequences of those razor sharp saddles though?    Flirting with danger provides that extra thrill perhaps for the budgie smuggler as they race round Richmond Park???
