So, one of the UK’s richest individuals, Sir Jim Radcliffe, a Brexit supporter to his boots, is moving to Monaco. Such faith in the UK.Also a huge increase in applications from very rich people to buy citizenship in Cyprus.What do you think they might know that we don’t?

They know after the Brexit vote that the majority are thick and they know that our youth don't give a toss about Covid-19 and are refusing to social distance and going en-mass to the off licence after the pubs have closed at 10pm and they know that our police have lost control and they know that all discipline in schools has gone and that the children rule the roost and can speak to teachers however they please, with the full backing of their parents. They also know that Boris and Hancock and Gove and Raab and most of the other front benchers are totally incompetent.  Why on earth would they want to remain here if they have the money to live like Kings or Queens elsewhere? Middle Eastern billionaires are buying up the Seychelles and other nice Islands around the world. Why wouldn't our UK billionaires jump on the bandwagon?

Although I am normally a resident of Portofino for part of the year, I still pay some taxes in the UK. Unfortunately the Covid has kept me in the UK for the summer, and so I suppose I'll be paying a whole lot more tax this year - all for the privilege of subsidising greedy gluttons to Eat Out And Help Out.

Moving on, here are a few fact you may want to consider, JP Morgan, big, infact very big US bank whose European Headquarters is currently in the UK, for how much longer is another debate, but they have moved 200 of their big hitters and £184 BILLION of assets over to Germany.Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs,HSBC and Citi have already moved parts of their business out of the United Kingdom. Dublin, Luxembourg, Frankfurt and Paris were the most popular destinations. EY said financial companies were likely to move more assets and create more jobs in other European cities over the coming weeks.The guys being moved are the big players who have other local staff like nannies, secretaries, drivers, gardeners etc who will no longer have a job and HMRC will not be getting their taxes through PAYE.So where are all these trade deals we were promised? From what I am hearing, the one thing is certain, the ship Britannia is sinking and the officers are jumping.

I am trying to think of a successful nation with trade deals in place only with countries thousands of miles away. It is for good reason that geographic proximity counts for so much in enabling international trade. It is a pity that our government does not understand that. Or they do know this but decide to continue to blag a claim that it will all be ok without a trade agreement with the EU. Fortunately for them there are plenty of gullible citizens who buy the notion that the UK does not need a trade agreement with the EU.

Why not go to Cyprus?  The whole of Cyprus is EU Territory, despite nearly half of it (37%) being occupied by an invading army, since 1974,  and the EU has done nothing about that except the usual windbag stuff, like declaring it illegal.Of course the Turkish Army is the second biggest in NATO, (after U.S.A), so the EU (used to include us, but after Brexit no longer so)  would probably get a bloody nose if they tried to do anything about it, and in any case their friends across the Atlantic wouldn't like it.Its all a bit like the situation that faced Maggie, but she wasn't called the Iron Lady for nothing, and I don't think she would have waited over 40 years to resolve the situation.

Again and again the anti-EU brigade demonstrate the double-think that results in idiocy like Brexit. On the one hand they bemoan the superstate power grab of the EU. This is the power grab that apparently meant the UK couldn’t pass its own laws and destroyed the UK’s sovereignty. This is the superstate that will do away with individual country’s armies. Then at the same time they declaim any lack of action by the EU. Look, this EU is weak and hopeless. They even suggest it should be taking military action. One presumes they mean that the EU should muster an army. Wait. Hang on. Is that the EU army from the overly powerful but also weak EU that they don’t want?Please explain. And while you are explaining that could you also explain why the great trade deal that will be so easy to get isn’t.

The three Guarantor powers under the 1960 Treaty were Greece, Turkey and the UK. The Greek colonels violated the treaty by sponsoring a coup in Cyprus. Turkey had the right to intervene to restore the 'status quo'.  It did a lot more than that and the UK did nothing.  Shameful and nothing to do with the then nine-state European Community.

"...the UK did nothing"Harold Wilson's Labour minority government in the summer of 1974 were probably more concerned with getting a majority in the upcoming General Election.Cyprus was allowed to join the EU in 2004, even though the Greek Cypriots had just rejected the Annan Plan to solve the island's division. There doesn't seem to have been much progress since.
