If you are caught in these queues or they will impact you, please email Hounslow councillors and TFL. It is now TFL's baby, road closures wrapped into the new CS9. Though with a segregated bike lane it is a challenge to see why reopening it would have any impact.A few things people should realise:1) These queues are not just a product of the temporary lights. I reported on similar queues several weeks ago, before the closures of TGT and Fishers Lane had really kicked in. A pro-cycling poster accused me of reporting phantom queues, but they were real. Traffic lights at the junction of Sutton Lane and the High Rd had been changed by Hounslow to let only a handful of vehicles through, so chaos around the Turnham Green and down Acton Lane. Then the lights changed back and things calmed down but still busy due to the diverted traffic. Then came the roadworks, who can say how long they last as no one doing any work. Really short time again for traffic northbound up Sutton Lane, so queues all day2) Beware the new bus gate, designed to reduce the number of cars and commercial vehicles on the central High Road so TFL can claim CS9 is a success. The bus gate will need its own green time, which will take away from green for other directions and eastbound other traffic. So more queues in all directions are inevitable, the north south routes on Sutton Lane and Acton Lane will be worst3) Do not bother with the 272, or get off at the town hall. With these queues its of no great use to anyone if coming from Grove Park. Another reason I have to drive more. Avoid Sutton Lane if coming from the south, use Heathfield Terrace to Waitrose and then left on High Road. It is quicker route to Acton Lane for nowEven after the roadworks finish it will become much harder to cross the tube lines and Chiswick will be cut in half. Worse, our lovely greens like Turnham Green and Acton Common are lined by queues of polluting traffic. Wait for a damp winter evening with Brentford and Chelsea at home.If you want to cycle anywhere other than CS9 its going to be no fun at all. The stretch of CS9 along the south of Turnham Green will be one to avoid due to traffic. I have been accused as being a prophet of doom on this forum but so far events entirely as predicted. I wish it was not.
