My guess is that no-one posting here actually lives in Fishers Lane? I’ve lived there for over 30 years and, pre-pandemic, it had become the best (or worst if you’re a resident) rat run in west London, particularly with traffic trying to get to the M4. Every morning and evening, the southbound traffic often backs up beyond the tube line into South Parade; in the process this impacts northbound traffic too, which backs up to the Health Centre and beyond. We’ve had to put up with idling engines, horns blaring, loud music from cars and physical confrontations at the tube line bridge. Outside of these congested times the road then switches to be the starting straight of Brands Hatch with southbound traffic particularly accelerating from the bridge to the High Road at speeds often in excess of 50mph plus. There is a playground at the top of the road right beside all this chaos, whilst the elderly residents of Homecross House dice with death to reach the Health Centre. This is a residential road, not the A4! Many residents desperately want this closure to stay - with better signage, proper enforcement and coordination between Hounslow and Ealing Traffic Planners; equally, Turnham Green Terrace must be reopened. If Fishers Lane is re-opened and Turnham Green Terrace remains closed, then Fishers Lane will become jammed with traffic ALL day and evening too – that certainly won’t solve the congestion problem.
