Who pays for the TV ad?

There's an ad on TV depicting happy people joyfully cycling/walking to schools etc on our newly created "safe streets" closed to all motorised vehicles.   The sun's out and it is simply lovely and it promotes the Governments policy.   WHO IS PAYING FOR THIS EXPENSIVE AD?   The Government does not have any money - it's spending borrowed cash that we the public are having to pay back at some stage and I object to this unwarrented and badly thought through policy.

Jennifer - please don't just object to the ad - please campaign for alternative solutions for those who can't walk far and that includes those in wheelchairs as well as those who are temporarily disabled and do not have cars.  We still don't have accessible stations in many places.  That is not only getting into the station but getting to all the train lines.

Philippa I AM one of those disabled!  I've kicked up enough fuss about all these unhelpful road closures.  Even before lockdown I was unable to travel anywhere from Chiswick by underground and I've been pretty vocal about that too.  Should TfL ever get round to adding lifts to either Cbiswick Park or Turnham Green due to parking and road restrictions I wouldn't be able to get there anyway.  Hounslow Council has seen to that.

I imagine you’d get change out of the cost of treating a couple of people for heart disease and/or obesity-related illnesses. You can either look at it as a cost or an investment (in peoples’ health).

Personal cars are not the only motorised transport that those temporarily or permanently disabled use.  We need the buses and dial-a-rides to be able to collect and take people around and drop them off.

The irony (for me anyway) is that I bet there are so many people who voted for the Conservative Party (who now form the government and hence are ultimately responsible for these adverts airing) in the last election who oppose the message the adverts are promoting, while there are so many people who didn't vote for the Conservative party who actually support the message. Life is strange!

I know right. All those Tory stalwarts that now have Brexit and a huge push for active travel coming as a reward.They will still vote the same way yet keep complaining. History lessons will be full of people pissing themselves laughing at their logic in the future.

The Advert is under the banner of TfL and our friend Mayor Khan who now wants everyone to walk or cycle while the Tube and Buses get even less income. If they follow his "advice" the walkers and cyclists get even more pollution into their lungs due to the lack of traffic movement! eg Park Lane, Euston Road to name but two.  Joined up thinking??

I understood that you don't breathe in less pollution when you are inside the car than when outside.This Govt has twice been taken to court and lost because of the high pollution here.  It has been very useful to them to pass the buck to the Mayor of London.

What has the Mayor done for London? Nothing, apart from increase congestion charge, introduce ULEZ 24hrs, close businesses down and waste money on Trump blimps. His Ego is worse than his petty news soundbites which is all he can do, so you can bet your life in it, that under his mayorship he intends to make London unaffordable and its infrastructure even more chaotic and dumb. I need a vehicle for my work (not a taxi driver either) and he’s making it more and more difficult for working people to legitimately go about their business.

the thing is, we've been putting up with unhelpful performance since 2010 on a National Level ie Cameron, May and now Boris...oh and David C are you having any thoughts about another referendum for something??? toothpaste?

"I understood that you don't breathe in less pollution when you are inside the car than when outside."It depends on the filters. For newer cars you are breathing no pollution if windows are closed and aircon on.

Philippa.I thought it was obvious I was referring to the walkers and cyclists breathing in more pollution due to the ridiculous road lane restrictions. Where for example, cyclists have a two way lane with hardly anyone using it. Since when does restricting Park Lane and Euston Road to one lane for vehicles other than buses reduce air pollution?? I believe it now takes half an hour to travel one mile by car along a particular stretch of Euston Road. And that makes the air safer for pedestrians and cyclists??

There will be a lot less of them when the pollution caused by the traffic congestion gets in their lungs! When did you last see a cyclist wearing a mask?
