First Sign of Things to Come for South Parade

Not aware of any particular reason that South Parade would be so jammed with traffic at this time of the day other than people may be finally paying attention to the new access restrictions.

Tom tom route planner isn't showing any significant delay on South Parade @ 16.25.It is (somewhat ironically) showing a delay going south down Turnham Green Terrace.

Give the council a Brucie Bonus Chiswick High rd completely blocked from goldhawk rd to the Roundabout both ways.South Parade blocked from the shell garage. Common road is even stuffed..

I'm not sure how reliable traffic reports are on minor roads but South Parade/Bath Road is looking OK now.

Well you would say that, being one of the die hard supporters of these idiotic road closures, I understand the closure of Fishers Lane  but TGT and DR ? Sheer lunacy with negative impact on independent businesses!

You can't criticise Tom for displaying map data. However I've reloaded the map from earlier and it shows a different picture — not sure why but I had on site confirmation from somebody that the road was actually congested.  The latest map shows traffic has cleared eastbound on South Parade but not westbound. Cunnington Street is starting to be affected by traffic build ups. Ironically Turnham Green Terrace is also seeing tailbacks.

Googlemaps uses average traffic conditions updated with individual realtime phone data. That means it will have reduced reliability on short stretches of more minor roads as the realtime updates will be more more patchy.Probably a better measure is drive time over a fixed distance as it will average over some of the random elements. At the moment the length of South Parade and Bath Road from Chiswick Park Station to Goldhawk Road is showing as a 5 min drive time, at the low end of the usual 4 - 8 min range.

Try https://mydrive.tomtom.com/en_gb/If you want to see the length of an individual delay on a road you will need to register (I presume it's still free to do so) but if you enter a starting point and destination, you will get a choice of 3 routes with estimated times that include any delays en-route (and no need to register for this)

Just driven to/from Sainsbury's from the direction of Bath Road. Journey towards Sainsbury's had 4-5 minutes delay (due to traffic from Chiswick High Road backing up to the BP garage). Traffic in opposite direction no queuing.Southbound traffic (on TGT) backing back as far as the underground station.Once the schools go back it will almost certainly get worse (and presumably by then TGT will have cameras that actually discourage the drivers from breaking the law by driving down there).Oh, and for what it's worth, I don't think that closing TGT to through traffic is a particularly great idea, personally I think it would be better to make it one-way, probably going from South to North - though obviously that would causes issues for the E3 and its passengers going towards Greenford if the E3 could no longer go northbound along TGT.

I walked along South Parade from Fishers Lane to TGT this afternoon at 16.45, and back again exactly one hour later.The traffic, incl buses, on the way was free-flowing; and on the way back it could only be described as "light".P.S. Still a few cars driving along Fishers and TGT though maybe not so many as a week or two ago? The signage is very poor imo.

I don't know about South Parade today but either end of the High Road is gridlock. I had the misfortune today to get the 272 around 2pm, long queues to get around Turnham Green up Sutton Lane and then onto the High Road. There seemed to be a change to the lights there with a very short green signal. Added a good 10 minutes to the trip. Last week getting a bus from Hammersmith it got stuck in queues by Ravenscourt Park, again an added 10 minutes to the journey. Another poster has suggested the lights signals have also changed at the junction with Goldhawk Rd, causing delays in all directions. Perhaps its a deliberate strategy to keep traffic out of central Chiswick. But its a nightmare if you need to travel around the area. Thanks to our unaccountable councillors. Quite what these changes to traffic signals is meant to achieve is beyond me.

Last week there were temporary traffic lights in the vicinity of the junction of Askew Road with Goldhawk Road due to one of the roads being down to a single lane and these were the cause of traffic queues from the directions of Turnham Green, Shepherds Bush and Youngs corner. Maybe the northbound tailback along Goldhawk Road stretched back as far as the junction with CHR/King Street?

Right I have just pulled up outside my home.Today traffic is quiet as it is in august  yet now the traffic is at a standstill from fisher lane  along s parade to acton lane chis high rd...I dont want to be a keyboard warrior but whoever dreamed this up has to be mentally retarded.Come winter I hate to think and as for pollution? I feel really wound up

Tom, I posted earlier about my delayed bus journey today. THe 272 got stuck in a queue on Heathfield Terrace, and then slowly made its way up Sutton Lane. Thats a good 150 yards of queue. I dont know what Google maps showed, but the queues were there then and I could still see them when I get the E3 home around 6pm. Have not seen this for ages.It does not surprise me that this route is slower due to it being the only route across the tube lines left open. It also seems the traffic lights have changed to only allow a handful of vehicles to cross.Can you explain to me what this is achieving? And the queues on King St heading in Chiswick I experienced the other week were NOT caused by temporary traffic lights, there were none. How does forcing buses to sit queues help anyone?

(Nor did I notice anything untoward in the other direction)And I can confirm that at 18.55, traffic on MC's route west along Sth. Parade from Fishers Lane as far as Chiswick Park Station (at least) was equally free-flowing, even at the juncton of Duke of Sussex and BP garage.Until they've had an extended trail period, I cannot say what the consequences of these new arrangements will be (nor can anyone else, in truth).But I can't help wondering whether people aren't now noticing even minor delays which they might have shrugged off previously?After all, it's not as if we didn't have traffic congestion from time-to-time before the changes were introduced.

Richard, I know you are not commenting on my post and I did not travel on South Parade today. But I did see terrible congestion at the western end of CHR up Sutton Lane today. I also experienced bad congestion eastbound from King St a couple of weeks ago, which seems a particular bad spot. I would say that traffic signals have changed in a number of locations and are making queues worse. Yes we did have congestion at times before but we are currently in the middle of August and traffic levels remain well below normal for this time of year.

Another unfortunate and dangerous knock on effect are the displaced  cars (the ones that haven’t magically evaporated) trying to use other roads onto the High Rd. Almost got knocked over a few times. Unlike Turnham Green no traffic lights for crossing. And some very angry drivers too! Understandably given the unplanned man made congestion. Hope this is at least making a lot of money for the local politicos!

As night follows day it is a reality as observed elsewhere that traffic removed from TGT and Fishers Lane (which will increase in September) will not simply vanish - there has to be more traffic using the new "Chiswick Bypass" formed by Bath Road, South Parade and Acton Lane. Hounslow and Ealing officers are silent on the fact that there will be an inevitable increase in vehicle related pollution (air and noise) along the "bypass" and affecting residents and users of the adjacent parks. I predict that if properly measured the increases in pollution, which will have exponentially greater impacts as greater congestion and queuing occurs with engines running, will substantially outweigh the reductions expected in TGT and Fishers Lane.  Our planners probably did not even consider this outcome and, of course, the unnecessary impacts will be experienced every day throughout the "trial" period without any redress for affected residents and park users.
