Cat Trackers

Hi - I know there are a lot of helpful cat lovers on here and I wondered if anyone had advice on the best cat trackers.  I would like a lightweight one with a reasonable battery life... Thanks for any advice.

It has been a little while since I looked into this but the biggest problem to me seemed to be the size of all the pet trackers I came across - much more suited to dogs than cats. I could never find what you describe -lightweight with good battery life. Maybe someone has personal experience but  I don't know personally of anybody who has a cat that wears one.Much more important to my mind is micro-chipping (keeping details up to date!) and having your pet wear a collar. Cats do manage to shed their collars from  time to time, as they are designed to come off under strain, so I always had spares. Engraved tags also mean a straying puss is likely to get back home pretty quickly. I used to have them made with the pet's name and a phone number on one side, and on the other the vet's number and notice that the animal is chipped.

It depends what kind you want.  There are two basic kinds of devices - one, which I used for a while, that allows you to find your cat within a certain radius (and there are various types of these including GPS and all have pros and cons including the fact that the range isn't very large and the signal can be blocked by houses, rain etc) via a handheld device that bleeps when it locates the homing device on your cat's collar, and the other is basically a recording device that you can play back when your cat returns to see where s/he has been.
