Stirling Road recycling site

Be warned that it is closed this week. The gates are wide open but the unpleasant staff on duty won't allow entry stating there is a new online registration and prebooking system  ..... that starts on 17 August. Today's date, and I've checked, is 13 August.Good luck to LBE residents and others without online access.

You need to report this.

It's those yellow hi-viz jackets you see, turns people into mini dictators. Hats are worse though, give a bloke a hat and they rule the world!I have always found the staff at Stirling Road to be highly obnoxious and full of self importance.

Chris Blackwell ● 2270d

I agree with you Chris.    It really is unnecessary, I do appreciate it has been extremely busy and no doubt people getting impatient, but they never want to help.

My lovely neighbour drove me there recently. As we got out of the car, a very rude and  patronising  staff member shouted at her because she touched one of their cones as she walked past. It was a very unpleasant experience

I have seen that the booking system will allow 15 minutes per person, I'm usually in and out in 5, so I think this might slow things down. I don't know why things haven't gone back to normal at the tip, now that so much time has passed.  I saw a sun lounger dumped in Sainsbury's car park, I imagine the difficulty in accessing the tip is encouraging this behaviour.

I quite enjoy going to the tip and getting rid of stuff. I know that the people that work there didn’t attend finishing school but they do get quite a lot of abuse from some people who have not read the rules.

In any interaction with people of all backgrounds it is not unreasonable to be treated with civility, with kindness and with courtesy. These are innate human qualities, no matter where you work. It would be good too if the employees at this site also offered to help. This has been reported to Customer Services at LBE via Twitter and is being investigated. One of the yellow hi-vis' wearing employees was wearing a body cam so the investigation will be straightforward.

Turns out pedestrians and cyclists are not allowed to use the facility (even when nobody else is using it!)Dumbfounded. Except: councils, are there any good ones?

The big fat Geordie has a great job sitting on his arse doing the alternate oky coky..you put your left arm out general waste.,..you put your left arm out again wood and you sit it all out..my fun is making him say hello to me

Always found them o.k, they have to keep their distance now.  Should haveLet you in if it starts on 17th.

https://www.ealing.gov.uk/info/201171/recycling_services/292/re-use_and_recycling_centres_and_sites"Only cars, motorcyclist and cyclist are permitted, pedestrian entries are strictly prohibited. You must bring Photo ID and proof of residence when visiting."So cyclists ARE permitted according to the LBE website.  I can understand why they would not want pedestrians because lots of people like me when the queue was long (nothing like recently) would walk in the exit with a bag usually of garden waste once or twice a year and I'm sure they'd prefer to have my money for a garden waste collection.  I just might be tempted now they have decided to provide bags - wheelies are out - but I'd prefer to compost - and go elsewhere.Photo ID may be a problem for quite a few people.  Not everybody has a photo driving licence or a passport..Many should refresh themselves on what trade and commercial waste is.  It isn't defined as what you can get away with.Change is probably the biggest problem.

I've been using Stirling Road for about 25 years so they should know me very well there, or at least as well as they will allow. Miserable bunch who seem to have mastered the art of the Stern Expression and remaining seated whilst bossing people around.

Chris Blackwell ● 2268d

I think those that don't find the staff rude and unhelpful are in the minority and the complaints go way back before the pandemic, so no excuses there.  If cyclists are indeed allowed in, what are they carrying and how.  Why are they better option than a pedestrian?

Maggie Dodge ● 2268d

I guess it is because cycles don't always only have two  wheels and they can have side and front panniers. Cargobikes exist.  I would have been a bit worried about leaving a bike anywhere though.  I'd also want to be extra super sure that the operatives were aware that cycles are allowed and that it doesn't mean that they are there to be recycled! If all I had was some small stuff like electrics and flower pots I'd be looking harder at an alternative like LBH kerbside (electrics), LBE neighbourhood electrics banks or giving away on Gumtree or trashnothing or any other websites as well as the charity shops which test before selling.  (Check charity shops for what they want and don't forget that Ebay has charity shops and many charities sell online.)  Low energy lightbulbs can be recycled at the nearby Sainsbury's and at Robert Dyas.

Philippa Bond ● 2268d

Cycles can also have trailers

Philippa Bond ● 2268d

Don't think electrical items and flower pots end up in the rubbish at Stirling Road, the pots were put aside and the electrics so think Pots are re-use and electrical items probably strip back for parts etc.

Janice Evans ● 2268d

Well they definitely shouldn't but I meant that it is much easier to deal with them without bothering going to Stirling Road!

Philippa Bond ● 2267d

As usual, very rude and quite aggressive staff. We're paying their wages, we should remind them.
