We are talking about a variety of chlorine-containing compounds. I quote from a website about sanitizing swimming pools:Pools are treated with chlorine gas, sodium hypochlorite (liquid bleach), calcium hypochlorite (granular or tablet), lithium hypochlorite or chlorinated isocyanurates. When any of these compounds contact water, they release hypochlorous acid (HOCl), the active sanitizing agent. Chlorinated isocyanurates, a family of chemical compounds such as sodium dichloroisocyanurate and trichloroisocyanurate, also add cyanuric acid or stabilizer.Chlorine is a gas.... volatile and smells bad. Anywhere that smells of chlorine, by definition, cannot be spreading Covid-19 through the air, because the air is being disinfected. The most remote chance of infection would be in a changing room well away from the smell of chlorine. So my proposal is: disinfect the floors with a chlorine disinfectant more frequently than normal. Obviously Beccy Thorp is right that the business of managing swimming pools is important too.
