CS9, or whatever it is called, has excelled itself. Cyclists are encouraged by both signs on the road and a new slightly raised portion where Strand on the Green has its junction with Kew Bridge to leave CS9 and use the pavement on the east side of Kew Bridge to cross the bridge. The new raised section across the junction joins up to dropped kerbs at both ends with clear signs it is for the use of cycles. Have I missed something?

Yes, the bridge pavements have been marked for many years as shared use for both cyclists and pedestrians.

"Have I missed something?"Could you have missed the blue shared use signs indicating that it is legal to cycle on the pavement across Kew bridge? Here is google street view showing the signs on both sides of the bridge. It is from August 2008.https://goo.gl/maps/UXBe3xZwv9UwnJqk6

Well plainly with so many cyclists and pedestrians there is no room at all for any motorised traffic over Kew Bridge - the entire South Circular should be closed! The buses are full of germs apparently so unload them in Kew Gardens and at Chiswick roundabout in the north and let the passengers walk over the river. Will all the new residents soon to be occupying the hundreds of new skyscraper flats be pleased not to mention Brentford Stadium management? Tough luck - cars are evil, delivery vans and lorries even worse. Back to Fred Flintstone and his wagon - no pollution there!

The scheme will have shared-use for cyclist and pedestrians maintained on the eastern footway across the bridge, extended to the cycle lanes going to the North and West, including the crossing and paving outside Costa Coffee.

I cycle across Kew Bridge regularly and never use the cycle way, I feel safer on the road where I am faster than the traffic and the traffic is far more predictable than pedestrians.I wonder how many accidents happen in this shared use space?
Justin Stephenson ● 2294d
... think that Pedestrians and Cyclists are safe and happy bedfellows ? Sadly accidents waiting to happen
Loraine Pemberton ● 2294d
Alleluia, the penny drops at last! Of course making proper safe provision for cyclists is a good idea.

“ I wonder how many accidents happen in this shared use space?”None in the last 14 years.5 pedestrian casualties (3 serious), 2 with collisions with cars, 3 with motor cycles 4 cyclist casualties, all with car collisions.17 motor vehicle casualties (1 serious) in collisions with other motor vehicles.
Its amazing how many cyclists are quick to notice signs that favour them, but slow to take heed of signs that, for example, tell them that cycling on the Strand on the Green footpath is banned. I wondered how many would come forward.

So you're saying pedestrians would be better off travelling by car, leaving the walkways to cyclists.
Adam Pycz ● 2294d
Yeah, yeah, Jonathan, it must be a bit embarrassing being caught out that you didn’t see signs that have been there for at least 12 years.
“Amazing how many”. 3. That’s how many commented on your stupid post. Amazing.

Michael-What are your thoughts about the cyclist still at large in Bow?He was caught on CCTV colliding with an elderly man who subsequently died from his injuries and the cyclist pedalled off yet to be found.
David Lesniak ● 2293d
Obviously when caught he should be subject to the full force of the law, in particular for leaving the scene of the accident. However, you do not specify whether the accident was on the highway or the footpath, and if the former, whether the elderly man stepped out into the road without looking and whether the cyclist was travelling at an excessive speed.

Wow talk about clinging on to one incident.
