My local Dentist price increase and NHS 11 week wait

I had a phone call from my dentistTo say that the hygienist not available as she has left,but the Dentist will do it and price has risen from £70  to £90My NHS appointment has been cancelled for check up for at least 12 weeks ,but I can see a Dentist at the same time but pay  £85 plus any x-ray or treatment.Is the the new normal now.

Yes it is, our dentist was explaining that currently they are required to wear full PPE, after each patient deep clean the surgery, then UV light check then leave the surgery for one hour before another patient can use that space. So a lot less patients and higher cost = higher cost to patients.

Yes, my dentist said that because of PPE costs dental hygienist appointments are now nearly double the pre-Covid cost

Hygenist appointments are a total con.It is one of the things that, on the 'new dental contract' that dentists could opt out of offering on the NHS although there is a clear NHS price for the 'scale and polish' as it was known. A standard clean is covered by Band 1 at £22.70. A more thorough deep clean is shifted up to Band 2 (£62.10).Of course, if your dentist can charge £80+ for a £22.70 treatment then they will.

I've got an appointment for this Friday for a hygienist appointment - so far no money has been mentioned but you have to pay up front now.

If they made all NHS appointments "pay up front" it would drastically cut the number of no shows and save the service a huge amount of money and wasteed time.

I'm actually delighted that I won't be bombarded with the usual six-monthly demands to see the hygienist.

Hygienist visit this morning - same price as usual but more basic as they are not using any machinery, good service, teeth great!

That’s goodI can’t see my dentist re NHS for 11 weeks wait but see him Monday privately as I have no choice due to Health issue,
