When we first heard about Corona virus we knew very little about it. Throughout lockdown we have all become experts. Yet we still truly don’t understand. Medical professionals and governments are learning on a daily basis. We are all looking for a fall guy. The press are busy pointing fingers. When the virus started spreading to our shores we all became afraid of the unknown. Many of us feared we would all know someone close to us who would die or become seriously ill. However, many have been untouched or come off lightly in all this, and are fed up with the restrictions imposed. Needless to say these are the people who are racing back to normality without a thought for others. Despite everything they have learned they somehow have no qualms in putting themselves and others at risk. As a family we have been directly affected in many ways by this deadly disease. Despite following all the rules vigilantly We have lost to the virus. a grandparent who was shielding, with one essential carer visiting daily. A second grandparent in same household became seriously ill with the virus and the first funeral was delayed because of this. My sister had her cancer treatment stopped and surgery brought forward. As a result of her hospital stay in hospital she contracted the virus and became seriously ill. Our grandson worked as a volunteer delivering food parcels. He too became very poorly with the virus, despite no underlying health conditions. I don’t believe the majority of people will act cautiously or heed government advice unless they are directly affected by it in someways. By which time it will be too late. What we all know is that the virus is out there. It can kill. It is not going to disappear. It can and will come back. We also know that we can act safely to protect ourselves and others. By all means go out and enjoy the sunshine, but not in mass gatherings or on crowded beaches. If you do need to go to the shops, think of others. Wear a mask, keep your distance, wash your hands. With the relaxing rules on international travel, I can only see this heading in one direction. Lockdown again in the autumn and winter will be much harder, and so will the effects of the virus.
