Express Tavern

Anybody know what is happening at the Express Tavern, looks different?

Apart from the repaint, it looks like they have covered over the outside seating area (not the grassy bit). Currently doing takeouts, just had a few pints of bass which we took to the river to drink.

Yes. The new paint scheme looks awful but I imagine it maybe was like that in the past?

Yeah... I thought the new paint was undercoat but unfortunately it looks like it isn’t...A great pub though.

and kept the packets of cigarettes in a drawer under the counter. I remember being in there on a New Year's Eve in the 70s when the great man himself, R. S. Aldington, came round with a loving cup for people to drink from.

Isn't this the pub where, 40 odd years ago, a very young Indian lady suddenly felt pain in her abdomen and took herself off to the upstairs toilet where she self delivered a baby?I remember reading afterwards she was unaware she was pregnant!

I thought it was the landlady, aged mid-40s, who produced in the bathroom and more like 15 years ago.

Had a socially distanced guided tour the other day.  It's looking great - outside is fab with masses of flowers in troughs, plus a new outside dispense bar in the garden.  New outside covered area.  More loos, and new upstairs function room.  Can't wait to get back once they are fully open.  They've worked really hard and deserve support from Chiswickians, Brentfordonians and, of course, Bees supporters!

Are those two lion sculptures still in the rear garden?Long ago I recall them being in front of the Star and Garter Hotel and pub..across the road.

I remember the lady giving birth, not knowing she was pregnant.  A very long time ago, could be as much as 40 years ago, I also thought it was the landlady 🤔
