The BBC has picked a rather extreme case, but yes, bikes are in high demand. Nonetheless, the BBC headline is misleading - she had a bike within 4 weeks, although that did involve a lot of shopping around. Also, reporting she'd have to wait until next year for a 2021 model is sloppy reporting. Bike models tend to change late summer, so 2021 models will be delivered later this year.Delivery is often quoted at 6 - 8 weeks for mainstream models.

I was chatting (2m+) to the guy in BIKE, King Street, and he was telling me he has never been so busy and doesn't have a bike left under £1,000!Strongly recommend these people btw, friendly, efficient and you don't have to pay extra for a smile which is more than I can say for others.

As Ken said, the 2021 models are likely to be delivered late summer.  That's normally the best time to buy as this year's models would be in the sale.  There won't be much of a sale this year though.

I don't think that young lady was after a 2021 mode, she just wanted a bike under £500. According to the article she couldn't get one a bike from anyone in her area.She even looked on gumtree, but every time she ran up for one it had gone. I think Evans finally found her a bike, but it sounds as though the shops are ordering anything, but the manufactures say they wouldn't be able to deliver until 2021.I think there was another lady on that article as well, who needed parts for her old bike she hadn't used for years. The only place she could find the parts she wanted was online  in Holland. They apparently were quicker at supplying the parts than a UK supplier. So maybe we should by our bikes from Holland and sod the UK shops.
