Shredding

..anyone have a good option for shredding a couple of boxes of paperwork- the "come-to-your- house "shredders needs ten boxes minimum and i dont have that many - do any shops in the the area have one or any other ideas  ? cheers

Buy a decent shredder.It will be far cheaper than any shredding service and a good cross-cut machine (any of the Fellowes models) is under £50.

I have used a fellows shredder for the last 10 years.  I put the waste paper in my compost heap.  Some helpful advice.Use regularly, remove all paper clips and separate those stapled together.  Don’t put too many sheets in at one time - 3 to 4 is about right.  You will hear if the machine is being overloaded.The machine should have a reverse so if you do get a paper jam you can get the excess out without wrecking the machine.  There is also a cut out if you work it too long and it overheats.  Last session I did lasted 40 minutes with no problems.

We have a decent sized Fellowes shredder and it gobbles up stuff without protest. We all thought computers would create the 'paperless office' but far from it, as more of us have our own computers, printers, paper supplies, replacement ink cartridges, ring binders, shelving, and now our own shredders!

Try www.homeshreduk.co.uk. They deliver sacks to you, you fill them and then arrange collection.

agreed - Im doing a purge and most of what I have is historical- it is mostly online now however pension and insurance seem to exist on paper! Thanks for all the suggestions..

I switched from shredding to a secure roller stamp ,now they just get roll stamped and put in paper recycle.

I just tear any details off and put in the food waste bin. The rest goes into the blue box for recycling. Shredded paper isn’t recyclable because the fibres are too short.The less paper we use and waste, the more trees are saved.I’ve also registered with MPS  ( Mailing Preference Service ) to stop unwanted advertising post from arriving and it’s made a big difference.

Ealing takes shredded paper with the rest of the recycling, but Hounslow doesn't.

I don’t know what Ealing does with it but doubt if it’s turned back into paper.

Probably composts it.  LBH will collect one carrier bag of shredded paper if left beside the boxes on collection day.  I also use shredded paper in my food box - soaks up excess fat and gravy a treat.
