Face masks should be compulsory in all enclosed public spaces

Looking at the pictures of the crowds hitting the shops yesterday, I could't help feeling it was another "if only" moment. In this case "if only they had made face masks compulsory in shops as well as on public transport". I wonder how many weeks before hindsight strikes on this one? It's not due to social distancing, because anyone who goes to shops knows that there is no social distancing despite the best efforts of the stores.Unfortunately, there are always people who have no idea of social space or perhaps don't even care. You may be great a respecting peoples space but there is always some twerp who wants to lean over you to get the milk or whatever.Another mistake by our government I feel.

I wonder if - at some point in the future - people might just use their initiative and not wait for the inept government to tell them to wear a mask. And don't get me started on those who don't seem to be able to 'master' wearing them.

I wear mine Gordon. But I'm not likely to give the virus to anyone atm (I was tested negative friday).I just don't want to get it from some stupid not wearing one.And best way is for government to come up with one of their clear edicts...Maybe something like..."in a few weeks time, we may announce that we think that it might be a good idea to wear a face mask for shopping. But first, we will naturally look at the scientific evidence from our backers to see if that meets with their approval and then make a decision. Sort of."

We do wear them when we visit the shops, why wait to be told.

Or to be told when to work from home, etc.  Many people I knowm as well as me decided, if they could, to work from home and stop socialising/hobbies that took them out of the house some 2-3 weeks before the government told us to.  We all share a deep distrust of government having seen their idiocy over many years.

Proper advice needs to be given clearly explaining the correct way to fix and wear a mask.  It is important that once put in place over the nose and mouth it is not then fiddled with or touched.  As soon as you use it to breathe through, the mask in infected both from you own germs and from anyone else's germs.  Once in place if you then touch your mask to adjust it you are spreading germs from the mask to your hands or gloves which can then infect any surface you then touch, door handles, basket handles, trolleys, shelves etc.

Oh Gordon! Couldn't agree more - so many masks not worn over the nose AND mouth or dangling around the chin or even worn on top of the head like glasses, ridiculous.

I was surprised that very few of the staff in M & S Kew Retail were wearing masks today.  Also not impressed by the poor signage that tells you that you have to go in one entrance for food and another, quite a distance away for clothes.  Not complaining about the use of different entrances, just the small signage.
