All credit to Marcus Rashford - the government have just had a change of heart re free school meals during the summer holidays.

Excellent - starving children are totally unacceptable.Nothing is for free so this is yet another expense to add to the already enormous debt this country is amassing - ways need to be found as soon as possible to start reducing this and rebuilding our economy, fast!

Public debt is of comparatively little consequence right now, while government spending can work wonders for the economy and the welfare of its people, helped also by increased taxation of the upper echelons.

Start by reducing the Overseas Development Aid bill drastically, and address some of our own problems first, then we can look to helping others. Lots of this aid is syphoned off long before it can be put to any good use, and very little effort seems to go into checking where it's supposed to go, and where it all actually went in the first place. Yet it still goes on.

It is good that this has happened and it might even indicate that this government is listening which is quite something. Jennifer, you are absolutely right. UK debt  since 2010 has doubled from one trillion to two trillion.An unprecedented  increase in national debt and that was even before the costs associated with the pandemic.
