14 day quarantine

Can anyone elucidate for me the logic of imposing a 14 day quarantine on all visitors to the UK at this moment? Why does it have to be worldwide? I am sure people in the UK would love to travel to our EU neighbours where the incidence is lower than in the UK. We can't do that when reciprocal quarantines are imposed.

Stay home - stay safe - don't travel.Two Brits have now infected New Zealand again after 24 days of no new cases and Beijing is again infected.Second wave fast approaches. Ground all aircraft except for vital imports and exports.

The whole point of Covid-19 is that it is NOT a flu-like virus. Much pandemic planning was based on a flu outbreak like the one at the end of the Great War, and Covid-19 outsmarted the planners.

New Zealand had the right idea. It is an Island so stop ALL flights and sit tight for a bit. And it worked. Isn't it ironic that the UK is also an Island but decided NOT to stop flights and that the first two cases of Covid-19 in NZ are from us Brits!
